G400 review feedback ?

Despite my best intentions and a huge pool of spit behind me on my left

it still locks up on scratch pad

AGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

i really dont get it

it all worked fine...
then i rebooted

and its poo again..

the only thing i can think of its thats its some sort of bios thing..
do you know what and how i should set it?
read ahead things, buffers, whatevers???

this is really pissing me off, all was fine with my G200, editing used to be a much loved joy and now its a pain in the bum
i sold the marvel on to a pal, and am now unable to get it back when i really need to be able to edit.... im editing a fashion show, with 2 cameras used, in total about 90 mins.... the way i work it is to capture a 'walk on' segment from both camera, then fiddle around with them matching them up and swap from one to the other..
can you imagine how long that will take if every time i have to trim a clip i have to play through the whole 3-4 thing first, and then MAYBE it will let me
aggghh

I cant use other software either, as i mtotally comfortable with MPS (when it goes)

again This_idiot i through myself on your mercy, can you think of ANYthing else how ever remote to help??? should i ask Haig???Write to Matrox tech support

I like the review. Great work.
You're the only review I found that states that the BOB for the G400 does not have the SPDIF connector.

But as one person implied, it'd be nice to compare the Marvel G400 versus a G400/RRG combo.

I still have a few days to exchange my Marvel for the G400 MAX and pick up the RRG later on(if I can find one in the US).

Obviously, I'm into both games and the video capture options...
heck... I just like being able to watch TV or play my console games and browse the web when I need to.

CMB, I'm sorry that I couldn't talk you through the problems successfully. If you want to pop the machine in here in the UK I'll be glad to troubleshoot it for you

I've put in a help call to Haig, maybe he will be able to spot something I can't.

The Fool, I am working on it. I am busy working on the W98 version of the review, and I have a G-RR sitting here ready for a comparison. I have arranged to borrow a G400 to twin it up with and will be writing a comparison as soon as time allows. I think that this will be another couple of weeks though.

Do me a favour to write-off another possibility. Grab a clip WITHOUT audio, run it thru MSP and see if the scratchpad still locks up

i moved my sblive up one
and in doing so snapped the leg of my tower
and lost a screw inside grrrrrrrrr :O)

so anyhow i rebooted
there was some sort of conflict with my sblive and a pci slot but reinstalling Liveware 3.0 fixed that

the did the powerdesk/vidtools uninstall/reinstall thing and im away
it works

i rebooted it
and tried to play the longest clip ive got right not Jennifer lopz 'if you had my love video

IT WORKED!!!!

it played forwar, slow mo and backward fine
(ever seen her danc backward, amusing yet still strangely erotic :O)

so im pleased!!!!
ive thought its been fixed twice befor allready this week though so im still waiting for the downside, like i cant use word or something stupid like that

but it seems <crossed fingers>
to be ok

I don't know if this may help, but:
Once I put DV Raptor in to PCI slot, nearest to AGP.

The system began to freeze sometimes with distorted PREMIERE 4.2 preview window! Nothing else gave me a trouble with this setup. Both video card and Raptor worked fine, but not in Premiere 4.2. Raptor is not working with 4.2 at all, but caused problems with G400.

Leaving this slot free resolved the problem.

From my previous attempts, I learned that ANY PCI card (except RR_G) causes problems if it is placed in this slot, both with G200 or G400. I did not try another AGP cards.
I have ABIT BH6.

just downloaded the latest bios for my mother board dated 1/11/99
also i was reading th FAQ on the VIATECH website
(my MotherBoard uses the via 4 in 1 drivers)

when you install the agp driver it gives the option of turbo or normal...
i chose turbo, but it says on the website that could be more unstable...

do you think this would improve any if i was to go back and install the drivers at normal?

ive installed windows so much over the past week im fed up of it!!!!

but its the only thing i can think of,

anyone else out there reading this who uses viatech drivers who can comment?
