  • Marvel overclocking,,,,NOT!

Awhile back I dabbled with overclocking my old RR-S following Doc's tip (Thanx by the way) and thought I would see how it worked on my Marvel with faster harddrives and a K6-III 400.
It seems that no matter how high I set the registry, the damn thing won't capture any higher that 3 megs per second. When I go into Ulead's capture program I can see the rate has been altered according to what I changed in the registry but after capturing and checking the properties on the file it is firmly stuck at 3 megs per second.
I thought I remembered hearing that the Marvel couldn't be pushed as far as the RR-S but is it possibble Matrox has found a way to block overclocking altogether on the Marvel?

    Hi Riktar,

Yep, you're right (almost). The RR-S could be "overclocked" as far as your HDs would stand. The Marvel was restricted to limit the amount of "overclocking" that was recognised. It can stand a small amount, I can't remember the exact details but I think about 15%.

Note that I have put "overclock" in "quotes" becase as Grigory rightly points out this isn't a true overclock since it isn't changing the hardware, merely pushing the compression settings.

    Whats in a word anyway
