  • Noisy sound under WinNT

When I capture videos with the PC-VCR application with my Marvel G200, the picture quality is very good, but the sound is horrible. During capturing the sound can be heard perfect but when playing the captured video it is very noisy. Under Win98 the sound is better but much worse than the original - no matter what sound quality I choose. I have a sound card with the Opti931 chip
and the sound is connected via the Marvel box to line in.

    Hi Helau,

First of all, don't run the sound through the Marvel BOB box. I've noticed that running through the BOB seriously degrades the sound quality. Instead, go directly to your sound card.

I always use "CD Quality" sound with my SB 128 PCI sound card and I think the sound ends up being pretty decent.

As for what you said about it working better under 98 than NT, I can relate to that. Although I am not having sound problems, I am having a lot of other problems when I try to use my Marvel under NT. On the other hand, everything works perfectly fine under 98. To make matters worse, there is almost no one who knows enough about NT to be able to offer any help when you encounter a problem. As a result, I've pretty much given up on trying to use NT for video work.

Are you by any chance capturing video to an ATA66 drive through an ATA66-enabled controller? If so, drop it to ATA33 and see if that helps.

I fixed the problem by buying a new soundcard. Now everything works fine for me under WinNT
