I just rechecked the 5.2 update section at Ulead, It says to install quicktime 3 before using it,
will 4 do ?
or is this contributing to my problem?
and if so, where do i get quicktime 3 from these days, apple only shouts about Q4??

I think that the 5.2 upgrade asks for QT 16 in which case say no.
When I say REM out I mean open your autoexec and config sys files and add REM to the beginning of the following lines;

SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM.

Hi friends
ok this is weried???

i load up MSP and scratch a file, and it locks up right!

if i ctrl/alt/delte
and i shut down Pdesk

everything is fine..

ive rebooted a couple of times since ansd tried it, and so far i get control back and everything is fine if i stop the pdesk from running as i start up

ive gone into the powerdesk control manual and i unchecked, display on sys tray and load on startup but a reboot later its still running in the background

so if this is the problem, how do i stop it loading in from the start, and what functinality do i lose from it not running it

ps. if i run the new powerdesk utility thing, it says i have registory errors, but not why??

Hi CMB,

First of all,
you don't need that config.sys so copy it to a directory then delete it from the root.

The autoexec.bat (make sure you back it up)
change the following line to show this..

rem mode con codepage prepare=((850 C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
rem mode con codepage select=850
rem keyb uk,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\keyboard.sys

You don't need all that stuff because Windows already takes care it.

What about that emm386.exe stuff ? Since W9x handles its own memory, isn't that likely to stuff things up ? I haven't seen that entry since I was trying to play C&C on a 486 machine !

I tried doing as you instructed,
changing the lines and everything

but all that happend is my pc Beeped on boot up

when i started MSP its still the same

so i changed it back

Its Definatly powerdesk conflicting with MSP

I can place a clip on the timeline, and then go to scratch it and it locks up straight away, when i ctrl/alt/delete and shut down Pdesk it plays fine,
same goes for if i shut down pdesk and then load MSP its all fine too

I noticed when i tried running the power desk reg manager, it flashes up a warning and says that the Powerdesk has a registiry error (im running 5.30 and 1.51 now)

could that be anything to do with it????

i even put on win98 normal flavour

I mean now i can get round it its not that big of a deal i just shut down powerdesk before editing, its just the principle that i shouldnt have to. also i dont know what functionality im losing through shutting it down.
but for what ever reason
MPS just wont sratch while Pdesk runs in the background.

Once ive shut it down though, i can still use dvdmax and everything so what exactly does it do?

Well as long as you can get round it, that's the main thing. Still, it bugs me since I've been using G200 for a long while and have successfully trialled the G400. I usually use W95 OSR2.1, but have switched to 98 to continue testing G400-TV. I have to say that I prefer using 95. My net connection has gone to the wall since using 98.

Still, if you find yourself in the midlands (I'm close to Solihull, 10 mins from the M42), feel free to drop the machine off for an Idiot check. Just make sure you back everything else up first tho.....

have you heard of a program called 'ghost'
takes a snapshot of your hardrive,
then you can back it up on cd and just restore it if anything goes wrong
i usually do that
thats why these past weeks of actuall reinstalling windows properly has been such a pain :O)
