I guess we all chose our cams for reasons that made sense to us. My reason for choosing a cam without analog inputs is that I don't NEED them, so why spend the extra bux when I have other gear for getting analog video into an editor?

Obviously no one who has taken a position is going to have an epiphany so I agree with Chris's position of letting this thread die.

I don't blame the "Mini DV only" people for disliking D8. It kind of reminds me of how I felt when that evil thing called DIVX was being foisted onto the public. As an early adopter of DVD I was eagerly looking forward to the DVD standard becoming deeply entrenched and DIVX got in the way for a while.

Now, DIVX is dead, and I feel a little sorry for the consumers that bought into it.

There was only one positive thing I noticed going on when DIVX was still around--DVD prices were going down. As soon as DIVX died, DVD prices went back up.

It's interesting that when you read the comments of those who own D8 cameras, they really did buy them for the unique features and the price, and they are happy with the performance they are getting. I would love to have a tiny Mini DV unit that I could drop in a pocket and use anywhere, anytime, (especially with 3 CCD) but I can't afford (I mean justify) to have both at the same time, and right now the D8 is very usefull to me.

Now, would it be too much to ask some of you more experienced digital imaging folks to help me out with my stupid question in this thread?

This has been an interestering discussion with maybe too much emotion.

I thought D8 was a great idea as a bridge product to transition from analog to digital video.

As one who's analog 8mm camcorder died, buying a D8 to get to play with DV and firewire and still be able to playback my old tapes made the choice a no brainer.

If you've no 8mm legacy tapes to playback, I agree that D8 has little to offer.

JVC seems to have no information about PAL DV camcorders.

All have russian sites, but Panasonic has NO info on consumer electronics on it.

          Sony has updated site.

Please point out any 1 CCD device with more than 420,000 effective pixels CCD, less than x16 zoom lens. Both parameters were subject of discussion here. Compare other features.

          Read and compare.
