  • DVD Daughterboard for G200 Marvel.

    Hello,

Anyone here using the DVD daughterboard?

I posted a topic on HARDWARE forum, got this reply

"That add-on was made by Zoran, who have elected not to support it. The only software that works with the DVD add-on is the Zoran DVD player. That DVD player software does not work with 5.xx series drivers (won't even install)."

I found the ZoranDVD software supplied with my Marvel didn't like my Sony DVD drive, however PowerDVD and WinDVD work ok, is a little jumpy in the action scenes.

I'm now a little confused as to which direction to go...

    Pls Help..

    Regards Darren

If you have the hardware dvd decoder and that you are using WinDVD or PowerDVD then you are not taking advantage of your hardware decoding.
Matrox has mentioned an upcoming fix (or patch) to allow Zoran SoftDVD to install with the 5.xx drivers. It seems as if this will be coming out before the new year.
The DVD add-on hasn't received great reviews I guess you're kinda stuck with it for now...

I was just thinking about the DVD player a couple of days back. Funny how it never really took off. It was definitely a Matrox product, not Zoran, but only appeared to be on sale for a few weeks. The hardware was only supported by the Zoran SoftDVD player, and this was distinctly flakey, especially with AMD CPUs

        Thanx.

I tried to run the Zoran software when I first got my DVD drive, it didn't work.
(think it will work with DVD mod... maybe my sony DVD drive isn't compatable)

I've also heard that the new 5.xx drivers don't support the DVD module

I was looking forward to buying and plugging the DVD module in, having the simultaneous TV out, and not being jumpy in the action scenes. (gives my PIII500 a workout)

All in all it's becoming a disappointing exercise..

A question you may be able to answer This_Idiot, should I bother with the DVD Module? It's proving to be hard to get my hands on, and from what I hear may be more trouble than it's worth. Also if I was to get a seperate decoder (creative or the like) is this going to fight with my G200Marvel?

        Darren.

The DVD Daughtercard is a great idea. The software sucks. I specifically bought my MarvelG200-TV for it's 15 in 1 features, but I can only get 13 or so depending on the drivers I use...but I digress.

If you install the software on a machine that has more than one CD or DVD ROM, the best solution I have to offer is to manually assign the DVD the next-to-the-last drive letter (Make it the first ATAPI device), and the other CD drive the last one (The last ATAPI device). This usually fixes the problem. The software is easily bollixed by other software installations, too. Don't be suprised if you need to reinstall the DVD software after installing a game, or graphics program.
