  • Question about macrovision !

I just bought a g400 marvel under the impression that i would be able to make copies of copy protected video tapes. I have now learned that this cant be done because of macrovision. Is the g200 marvel able to do so ?
Are the miro cards able to do so ?
Will there be a patch for the g400 marvel that will enable it to copy protected video tapes ?

You might check this out, but I don't know if it will work with the g400.

There is a contributor on this forum who goes by the name "sun". Sun has made some cracks to get around the Macrovision problems when it interferes with your own personal recordings.

Stupid movie/record companies. In their zeal to protect their materials, they force expensive, and sometimes faulty, protection schemes on manufacturers of digital video and audio equipment. And who pays for it? THE CONSUMERS!!!!

It is my understanding that because the Matrox cards can play DVD that they are legally obligated to implement copy protection. Miro cards do not have this constraint, so I assume that they do not have copy protection implemented. Can someone with a DC10plus or DC30plus/pro comment? (Are you out there Pooh? )

Pooh confirmed that the DC30plus does not implement Macrovision protection.

Sorry About the absence peeps, I've been kind of busy lately reconfiguring my system.

Now playing with a dual PIII 500 under NT4, yummy.

As far as marcovision protection and MIRO DC30+ is concerned I am glad to say that my trusty DC30+ doesn't give a shit about macrovision protection and is still rock solid. Premier 5.1 and Hollywood FX goes like the preverbial stuff of the shiney shovel under NT4 and a dual processor setup.

          Hope this helps.

            Thanks for your replies.
The Miro Dc30+ is too expensive for me. How about the Miro Dc10+, would it do the trick too?
There is also a link at this page to some cracks for the g200, - do they work.
One last thing - if i use two video recorders, would i then be able to copy a tape in realtime using the computer as a decorder - or do i have to record the whole movie to the hardisk, and then back to a tape?

Yes, the DC10plus should work too. As far as I know, there are no cracks for the G400 drivers yet.

I'm currently reviewing a DC10+ (for someone else), so I can try a Macrovision encoded tape for you tomorrow. Seems to me that the DC10+ takes a whole lot more setting up than the Marvel ever did. I'm working on it, don't jump yet.

Cool. I'm curious to know if the higher capture rates available on the DC10plus result in any discernible improvement over the Marvel/RR.

                    Sorry DaddyB,

Fraid you'll have to wait a day or two. Since it isn't my kit, I'll have to get permission to install it into my own PC, or wait until the article on the whole shooting match has been published. I think I'll be OK talking about my impressions tho.

Cool. Will you be posting it soon?

                        TI,
No problem. Aside from having a life, I know that the continuation of the Marvel review and summarizing your journey to the Digital Media World exhibition must be keeping you busy too. I am interested in anything you have to say

                          Sun,

Please let me know of a location where we can reach the cracked versions, I'll add it to the link list.

DaddyB, thanks for the VOC, it is getting tough this week. I have to finish the major review tomorrow come hell or high water, after that I have a small breathing space in which to work on my "own" articles. The remainder of the G400 review should pretty much be a matter of form, since I am not expecting any major differences from the W95 review except for the dualhead aspects which I already published.

I expected to be able to publish a simple list of answers to the forum questions about RT2K, but the truth is that it isn't that simple and so anything less than a full analysis would not be doing the subject justice (hence the delay). I'll be aiming to get it finished for Friday night (UK time), but I might need to get some extra input from Matrox so that I don't screw it up and with them so busy at the expo it isn't too easy to get in contact.

Thanks all for being so patient.

                          Chris

Icracked the driver and my frien makes the short patch program. I don't upload to the net. Someone makes a web site for my old crac(http://hometown.aol.com/pheonix118/myhomepage/movies.html) but i can't upload it, and I forgot the guy's e-mail address. But if you want I can post you and you put it to the links page.

Hi Sun, i would like to have your crack for the 1.51.
Could you mail it to me ?
                              My email is : oleandersen@get2net.dk
By the way, i tried your crack for the 1.50 beta with the marvel g400, and it works fine.

Could anyone tell if it is possible to use the computer as a realtime decoder, or do i have to record the whole movie to the harddisk in order to get around the macrovision?
