  • Playback Mystery..

With the G400 Marvel, and VidTOols 1.51 PD 5.30 I have a problem that I never saw with the G200.
Playback of AVI files in either MediaPlayer of the Matrox PC-VCR has intermittent green horizontal lines appearing on the right 3/4 of the playback window. The weird part is that it is not in the file (I think). MOVs in QT4 and MPGs play fine. With the AVI's though, even a freeze frame does not freeze the green lines. Also they do not seem to be capturable...just artifacts. Their frequency decreases with the size of the playback windows...smaller window = less green static.
I get the same result whether it has been a TV capture or a camcorder capture.

I'm at a loss to figure this out. Have tried everything except going back to an earlier MediaPlayer. (Currently 6.4)

Any help would be appreciated, because while this is not critical, it sure is annoying.

I haven't seen this at all. Most likely it's a setup or installation issue.

Have you tried reseating the card? Some mobos have cheap AGP slots and the cards won't seat in them properly causing various problems. See the MURC sites archives for more on this.

The baffling part is that it only with AVI playback.
I just rendered a green-staticed AVI to MPG and it plays back with no problem.

The card was the first thing I checked.

      AVI's still green-lined.

Is it possible that it is data-rate related? Because all my AVI's are high data rate, and very large files?

      Thanks for responding.

        I had a similar problem...
when playing back avi's i had captured they would flash green when i enlarged the window greater then a certain point, but still play fine through the tv.

I fixed it by uninstalling the powerdesk and vid tools, then putting them back on
I didnt manage to fix my Media Studio Pro problem however,
<the Scrath pad locks up which kinda makes it hard to trim clips>
i hope you get your prob sorted :O)

Not yet, but haven't been able to try much.
Having a new BE6 Mb installed. Got one and it had a bad bios...just got the replacement.

Will let you know if I ever figure this out

Just an update on the green lines on playback....

After setting up my new board and doing a clean install of Win98SE, and starting with the latest drivers for all my hardware, I can now say for certain that the incedence of the green lines that I saw before in playback has decreased in frequency and intensity, but has not disappeared.

This makes it even harder for me diagnose though. the lines were there when all I had installed on my system was the OS, the Marvel, Mediaplayer 6.4, and the Matrox drivers and vidtools.

Sigh. It is bearable, so i may just give up on trying to resolve it.
