MSPro 5.2 audio problems, Please Help

Hi,
I hope someone can help my annoying problem. I am trying to make a wedding video, because the local videographer is not up to par.

The future misses wants me to start making the video now, with pictures of us growing up, background music, and transitions (page flip and dissolve). I don't think I have to say this, but its got to be PERFECT!

The problem is:
When I create a video file, the begining of the avi contains sound then for some reason, it losses sound for the rest of the avi. When I recreate the video file with the same settings, sometimes the sound lasts longer, then beggings to skip like a cd, playing a snippet of sound over and over again for the rest of the video.

The video consists of a 1 or 2 minute snippet from TV (captured with PC-VCR) then the rest are jpegs (28 jpegs (so far), 100dpi, 7 sec each). The background music for the images is a cd track (*.wav).

I can play the imported *.wav file, and sounds very good. The captured video from tv looks and sounds pretty good. Captured with 704x480 cd-quality sound.


Because I am not sitting infront of the computer, I believe the settings for the video output file is:

Field Based; 704x480, 30fps, Matrox MJPEG compression, CD-Quality Audio.

Be sure you are interleaving audio and video. (Video Save Options, Advanced tab, "Interleave audio and video") The Ulead manual says to leave it at one; I really don't see any advantage in setting it to anything else.

Hi Sam,

First, let me tell you to make sure that you hire a capable videographer for the day itself. While adding all the background yourself is a great idea, and will give the bothe of you much pleasure in the future, the wedding day is so important and DIFFICULT TO VIDEO that you just have to have professional help.

For the rest of your problem, I can't immediately see a reason, although Fluggs suggestion is worth giving a try.

I ablsolutely agree. We looked for quality first then price. The problem is that there are not alot of videographers where we are, Sanford Maine, about 3hrs north of Boston, Mass. These people, as far as I can tell, are the best. They were able to capture all the important events in the sample they let us view. Excellent referrals. The shots were stable, clear, and the sound was very good. They said that there would be two videographers at that day, and that all materials, would be handed over.

The only problem with their setup was that they used strictly hardware, VCR to VCR. I am not a videographer, and will state that I am about as green as they come when it involves video editing, but I could do a much nicer transition and I could edit my pictures with adobe photoshop.

I initially thought that I could "play" with the videos after. But, when she saw my simple movies I made with avid cinema, she flipped. She wanted me to edit the videos . That is when I decided to fire up Avid Cinema again, after months of not touching it.

During that time, I upgraded the drivers and the OS to Win98. Well, avid didn't work the way it used to and that is when I started asking questions on this board.

I am going to try Fluggs suggestion tonight when I get home and hope that it will fix the problem.

thanks for giving me the suggestions. I really appreciate it. We only go through life once, and I need all the help I can! If you think of any others, please let me know. I was planning to put credits like the best man, maide of honor etc.. at the end of the movie. What do you think?

I think that did it. For some reason it was unchecked! I checked it and made sure it was set to 1. I did a couple of trial runs and presto!!! It worked. You may have just saved my LIFE!!!

Now I've got some questions about audio editing.

Again, thanks for your help. I was so happy, I stayed up late and did a blue screen, pretty cool.

If your wedding is anything like ours was (17+ years ago), then pennies are important right now. Otherwise I'd read the threads here and go for Ulead MSP if I were you.

Starting the video off with scans of some of the "off-the-wall" stills is a great idea. Try giving them 4-5 seconds each with a slow dissolve between. Don't forget to put in some approriate backing audio, you can easily pull in from CD. Ideas here are "Jesu, Joy of man's desiring" (JS Bach), Trumpet Voluntary (Clarke) etc. The main problem I had when I put together my Uncles wedding video was finding a suitable peal of churchbells. It took me hours to search one out. I've still got it archived to CD somewhere if you get stuck.

I set the stills to 7 seconds, which results in 5 seconds because of the 1 second transitions at the beginning and end of the image. It worked out great.

Okay guys, listen up: I'm about to give you a fantastic tip on audio editing, because I've been doing that for a lot longer than I've been doing video.

If you haven't noticed, the MediaStudio audio editor stinks. Probably the best and cheapest editor is GoldWave, available at found at <a href="www.goldwave.com">www.goldwave.com</a>. It's shareware, but you can try out all the features before paying for it.

It has a companion program called Multiquence on the same site. It's a track-mixing program with some simple video abilities, but its real power is in mixing and editing audio.

If you're wise, you Make TWO tapes.

Although often they wont actually edmit it, watching 3 hours of wedding-video is just too much for most of your friends, trust me...they'll easily become your enemies!

Make a great long video for yourself copy the best half hour to a "best shots of my wedding" for viewing to others.

Hope this din't offend you (and sorry for the bad grammar)
