  • Marvel, Marven and RRG - Opinions. Haig etc?

    Hi Guys,
I know this has been discussed in other posts, but there does not seem to be a answer to the question on the Marven chipset in the RRG. Will there be a new RRG with the new Marven chip? Or is the marketing decision to push buyers into Marvel G400 and away from G400 RRG combo.

From what I read in the forums, there are problems with G400 RRG combo and when you add the loss of true dual head with the lag in driver developement you have to ask the question. It seems that Matrox are setting the market for 1)Games/Business - G400, 2)Home Video - G400 Marvel and 3)RT2000 for more serious Video work.

Any comments? Is the new Marven chip that much better?

    Hi Ray,

I'll answer the best I can since I have no clue what is a Marven chipset is?

1 - Whatever driver set we release for the Marvel G400, it will be supported with the G400/RRG combo.

2 - RT-2000 is developed and supported by our Video division, not MGI. The MGI division deals with the home market consumers.

3 - There will not be a new RRG for the G400 cards not for the G200 cards.

      Thanks Haig.

Firstly, I must be crazy. Marven of course is a cartoon alien, for some reason I thought it was a codename of the tuner decoder chipset.

The capture quality of the G400 Marvel is rumoured to be better than RRG because of the newer chipset. Is there any difference in quality?

        Hi Ray,

Ther is a difference in quality between the RRG and the Marvel G400 but you really have to look for it.

People who have the Marvel G200 will see the difference right away since it's more noticeable between these 2 cards.
