    RRICMEXT.DLL 77824 bytes (from VT 1.51)

Why do Premiere 5.1a and MSP 5.2 both crash in this library while trying to edit video? This is <REALLY> annoying me because I have wasted LOTS of time and space and had to abandon live footage because I can't even edit it! I just can't believe this.

    I'm using a Max/RRG setup....

    Hi,

I haven't tried Premiere, but I haven't had the problem that you describe using Ulead 5.2 full version.

I traced the DLL, and it is sitting in my windows/system folder with a filesize of 77,824 and a date of 07/09/99 01:59

And I thought I was the only one getting this. I just recently picked up the G400MAX+RR combination. I uninstalled my old G200 drivers (they were at 5.30), put in the max+rrg then installed the 5.30 drivers again. The G400 seems to be working well. I then installed the 1.5 RR drivers, saw that there were 1.51 drivers on the website and installed them over the 1.50. I then installed the Media Studio Pro VE 5.02 then patched it to the 5.2 + 2 fixes from the Ulead site.

I then used the tuner and did a couple of quick captures to verify that all was working. Both TV tuner and captures work so I figured I would go on to the next item. Once I stared MSP Video Capture I noticed that there were 2 Matrox Vidcap drivers loaded. And when initializing the software I would hear the TV sound twice before it let me into the program. Was not sure if this was correct or not, so I unloaded the VidTools and reloaded the 1.51 drivers again. It once again showed 2 Matrox Vidcap drivers in the editor program... Ok weird but I figured to go with it. I captured some small video and then used the video editor to work with it. No problems. I then captured 5 min or so of video with the intent to put it to VideoCD. I did this at 352x240 NTSC medium quality @30 frames. It created a file approx 294,535KB which looked ok and played well with Windows media player 6.4.05.0809. I then tried to bring it into MSP VE Video Editor, moved it around a bit and wham, I got the “RRICMEXT.DLL” GPF. It seems as if I can only edit VERY small clips with MSP VE Video Editor. With playing around I found that if I convert the clip before I start editing it (tried MPEG1) , that I can then edit the converted clip without much problem.

Anyways, the RRICMEXT.DLL GPF is very annoying, my file is dated sep, 7 1999 1:51am.

I am also trying to figure out the correct setting to convert my AVI to MPEG with MSP VE Video Editor so that I can then cut a Video CD from Easy CD Creator 3.5c or 4.x. It seems that the ones I have tried so far, Easy CD Creator will not recognize it as a correctly formatted MPEG.

System Specs: Intel SE440BX, Pent III 450, SB Live X-Gamer 3.0, 3Com 905-TX Nic, Intel Create & Share Camera + Modem (PCI Card), Matrox G400MAX, Matrox RR, Viewsonic P817, Dual 9 Gig Seagate 7200 EIDE HD, Teac 32x EIDE CD Rom, 256MB Memory, OS Windows 98SE

As near as I can tell it has to do with when the avi file has a dropped frame in it somewhere and RRICMEXT is the interface that MSP and Premiere call to render certain MJPEG frames in an MJPEG AVI. For instance... if I take the AVI in question and open it up with media player with no other programs open that could possibly use Rainbow Runner (eg MSP, Premiere, other media players, etc.) it plays and looks fine. And when I open it a 2nd time (while the first is still playing) it looks different because it is unable to use the matrox mjpeg hardware renderer. As a result, when it gets to the dropped frame, the picture will turn to Black and White and stay that way for the remainder of playback. To further cement this idea, I'll keep track of when it turns black and white, close all progams, then open up MSP or AP, and zoom in really close and move up to right before the dropped frame and everything is fine, but then once I move it over the dropped frame I get the RRICMEXT.DLL GPF.

Is this just a driver fault that can't handle dropped frames when trying to render the frames around it?

Also, why does the Maven codec flake out when capturing a scene with A LOT of action and go all pixelated? I HATE THAT! And no, it's not my Xeon or RAID being unable to keep up.

Currently using G400-TV under W98 on PII 266 (extensively tested under W95 OSR2.1 before switching to 98).

Also on G200 Marvel under W98 on Celeron 300a @450.

I'm hoping to borrow one of Ants G400s to match up to a G-RR for further testing, but this is going to be at least a week away since I have a whole lot of other reviewing to do this week)

It may have something to do with the dropped frames, since that is what I was trying to edit out.

Well, the closest I've gotten is to install the Morgan Multimedia MJPEG software codec and use it... but then the part of the avi after the dropped frame is black and white... I'm still looking for a solution though! Matrox help me! I've got problems under NT as well.....

                    Hi,

RBryant is correct, it does have to do with the dropped or corrupted frames. This has been reproduced at Matrox and will be addressed.
The problem has to do with the conversion of the mjpeg to RGB. As soon as there is corruption "rricmext.dll", which is the conversion library, generates the GPF.

Any news? I think I have similar problem. When playing a recorded sequence, with the trial version of PowerVCR 1.3, the image is shifted to the right, in the display window, up to the hanging of W98... If a video recorded with Matrox VCR, without dropped frame, is converted to MPEG with PowerVCR there is no problem...
