  • Help re RR/G and G400 Millenium

Has anyone successfully managed to install a Rainbow Runner G-Series Upgrade card with a G400 Millenium (dualhead)?

If so, what drivers did you use and what steps did you follow?

After uninstalling all previous Matrox drivers I downloaded and setup Windows 9x PowerDesk 5.30 (as recommended by Matrox for Rainbow Runner G-series upgrade card users) and my existing G400 dualhead output images to monitor 1 and monitor 2 (a tv) successfully. I then downloaded and setup Windows 9x Video Tools version 1.51 (with no errors reported), but every time I run PC-VCR and select line-in or TV-in, the program crashes (although PC-VCR does let me playback old avi files). The same happens if I try running Matrox Quick Connect, the TV-out part works fine, but not the line-in (vid capture) or TV-in (tuner) bits.

Both PowerDesk 5.30 and Video Tools 1.51 ran through their setups with no errors reported, and display_settings/advance/information reports it recognises the TV-tuner and video capture hardware components.

I've resisted using the Matrox Rainbow Runner Setup CD since this just seems to have the old drivers, which I guess I don't want on my system. Any idea what step I've missed? What do you suggest I should do?

Also, I seem to have DirectX ver 6.2 SDK installed - perhaps it only works with ver 6.1???

Any help would be much appreciated, even a point in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance - J

Did you go through the Quick Connect option of the video tools?
Also, what are your system specs?

Yep I go the same setup and it works great.
I had no problems whatsoever. I thought I might since I am down to one IRQ left but still have it since the Rainbow Runner didn't
use it. Check out my results here: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVall...commercial.mpg
I used the brand new G400 drivers and the brand need rainbow drivers.

JAZZ - I used Qkcnct.exe (172Kb 7/09/9), located in the Matrox Video Tools folder.

My system specs are: Intell PIII 450Mhz, 128Mb ram, 13.6Gb Quantum Fireball KA disk, Samsung CD/DVD drive, D-Link 100Mb ethernet card, Matrox Millenium G400 AGP (dualhead 32Mb 300Mhz), Matrox Rainbow Runner G-series upgrade card (International), 17" monitor, Win98 2nd ed, DirectX 6.1 (possibly 6.2?)

The G400 works fine (assigned IRQ11). The only abnormality I can see is I have DirectX 6.2 installed.

Mocap - just to clarify, you used Windows 9x PowerDesk 5.30 and Windows 9x Video Tools version 1.51 from Matrox's web site - right? Did you have to do anything in addition to executing these two files to get you system operational? Is your display card the Millenium G400 and did you install it at the same time as the Rainbow Runner G-series upgrade card, or prior?

I'm trying to figure-out similarities and differences in our setups in the hope this might explain where I've gone wrong.

Thanks guys - Mr J (in NZ)

I got my G400Max and RR-G to work by building a brand new Windows 98 system and installing DirectX 6.1. after installing PD 5.25 and VT 5.1.

Unfortunately, this approach didn't work when I tried it on the "old" Windows 98 partition that had the "Vidpres This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down .." problem.

Hoping this works for you ..

I had the G400 for a week before I got the
RR/G mailed to me. I used the drivers straight from the web site. I also have Windows 98 SE and Direct X 7. Hope this info helps.
