  • sound out of sync with video on output

Can anyone give me advice on how to get audio back in sync with video ? I'm using Matrox G200 Marvel and AVID Cinema. After capturing video (S-VHS) the individual clips are in sync but after I string them together in AVID they soon go out audio soon lags well behind video. Within 40 secs there is a big lag,
I've tried all I can think of:
    - checking that each clip has audio in sync by using AVsync
    - adding memory (now 128Mb)
    - defragmenting disks
    - closing down any unnecessary applications.
The last thing I tried was adding memory because the sound seemed to be out of sync when memory allocation was high, but increasing from 64 to 128Mb doesn't help.
System configuration: Jetwaycomputer motherboard, Award Bios v4.51PG, AMD K-350 cpu, Matrox G200 Marvel, Maxtor 22Gb drive, Quantum 2.1 Gb drive, Avid Cinema. I'm still using the original Matrox drivers as provided on the CD.

    Hi!

Haven't used Avid, but your problem is probably hardware-setup oriented. Your data transfer rates to/from disk are the most likely cause. Are you sure DMA is on? Is your video disk a master on the IDE line? Download Sandra from the SiSoft site and run the diagnoses and report back on the various disk transfer rates. Another possibility is that your caches are swallowing up resources: run Cacheman (I forget where you can find it, but others will no doubt tell you). Also, I recommend you update the Matrox drivers, but this is unlikely to be a cause.

Finally, it COULD be a motherboard problem: this can happen that the data transfer rates are insufficient due to poor design or set-up. I don't know Jetway, but others may be able to tell you whether they have used it, successfully or not.

I haven't tried Avid, but in MSP there's an option for interleaving audio and video, and it should be on and set to 1. That's closely tied in with audio sync in an AVI file.
