  • No sound in PCVCR after installing VT 1.51

First -- I have been reading this forum for 6-8 months now, and am impressed with the helpful, high quality info here. Thanks to all!!!

Now to the problem... I recently installed the 5.30 drivers and VT 1.51. I carefully followed the directions for removing the old drivers. I fired up PCVCR and pressed play on VCR. No sound. I am certain this used to work.

I have un/reinstalled several times being sure to use the Matrox uninstall tool. Also, tried installing in "safe mode". No success.
Also, tried reinstall of the soundcard drivers.

I have the aux-in set to mute in the SysTray / Volume Control , assuming PCVCR will un-mute automatically. If I uncheck mute I do get sound, but when I close PCVCR I continue to here the tape. I did notice when starting PCVCR that the universal red "don't do this" symbol was momentarily displayed over the audio control in the sys tray.

Following is the relevant system info.

    MB: ASUS P2B
    Sound Card: Creative SB32
    HD: 2 IDE
    Video: Matrox Marvel G200
    CD: Generic
    CDRW: HP 8110i
    CPU: Celeron 333 (not overclocked)
OS: WIN98 (original w/lots of updates)

    TIA,
    Spew

Spew ? Damn, that's even worse than main old handle "Spit". Hehe, weren't the 70's great !

Enough, on to your problem. You aren't alone, most everyone seems to be having problems with this one, so either some clever designer over at Matrox decided that the old interface wasn't right or the poor ole programmer didn't read the spec right.

In order to hear the audio over your PCs sound system during capture, you will need to manually un-mute the line-in on your soundmixer panel. This is either glaringly apparent or completely baffling depending on what soundcard you use !

Regardless of whether you do this or not, PC-VCR still records sound alongside the captured video, and this will be played when you playback the AVI. Just to protect myself here, I'll qualify that statement by adding that you have to have your VCR audio's correctly connected to the BOB (and/or Soundcard depending on model) and that the RECORDING lines must also be unmuted.
