  • technical question for experts only

I have noticed that the Zoran chip can be found on the Marvel G400 and the DC10+ (and Iomega Buzz too). Is it exactly the same chip and does it give the same video capture quality ?

    Another question that nobody knows:
What gives the addition of the rage theater chip to the ati all in wonder 32?
Does it improve video capture quality ?

A least, I want to buy an all-in-one card to put some movies I have on CD (in mpg1).
The best card for me is the ati or the matrox ? (I have a celeron300 @450,128Mo ,26 Go hd...)

P.s.: I'm sorry if my english is not good but I am french and nobody in my country know something about this subject (we're late...)

The ATI Rage Theater chip is a display processor with some DVD playback features and not a capture device like the Zoran MJPeg chip.

As far as the AIW 128 and 128 PRO goes they are not very good for video editing. Their capture systems use software compression which puts an undue load on the CPU and system resources. As a result it requires a PIII-500 to do what a Marvel or DC-10 could do with a Celeron 300 running at standard speed.

The only hardware compressed ATI product was to be the Video Wonder, but all references have been removed from their website which makes one think they're having problems getting it out of the barn.

Also, stay as far from a Iomega Buzz as you can. It's no longer manufactured and Iomega never really supported it when it was.
