  • Getting started.

Hello. I am very keen to do some editing of my home videos on my pc, but I have had wildly conflicting advice about the hardware and software required.

I have an AMD K6-II 350 MHz cpu, 64 Mb RAM, and a 13 GB HDD (not SCSI). Can anyone tell me what motherboard, video (?capture) card and software to get? Is it possible to do good quality editing with a budget of about 100-200 pounds sterling ($250-400 Australian)for these 3 items?

I would be very grateful if anyone can spare the time to put me on track.

I think your budget is a little tight. However, my best advice to you would be to browse through the last hundred days of this forum (selectable on the drop-down menu) before you decide on anything. You will come across all sorts of conflicting advice but it should tell you what to beware of.

You may find your current m/b may be OK if it has a suitable slot for a Marvel. You will almost surely need a second hard disk reserved for video.

    Have a fair dinkum Christmas.
