  • Vcd prob-NERO invalid stream ?

    Using a RR/Mystique combo.
    Capturing at 352x288 25fps 44100hz stereo.
    Using mjpeg.
    No probs so far.
Encode the file with the panasonic encoder
    set to vcd/pal stream.
Nero will not accept the file keeps reporting
stream encoding which is invalid for a video cd.
Turning off video cd2 compatibility results in a burned yet non playable vcd.
Tried vcd cutter and i film edit all with the same result.

It would appear i am doing something wrong .
    But what ?
    All help appreciated.

    Hi Keith,

Have you tried cropping/scaling the file to fit NTSC dimensions ?

Sometimes I get the feeling that the ones writing these programs have failed miserably in geography (Europe - never heard of it)

Somewhere in the help or on the Panasonic website (I can't remember exactly where) it says that the VCD option in Panasonic encoder is not compatible with the Nero software. I do not recall seing any further explanation.

As an update I have also tried xing encoder
and lsx encoder all with the same result
        (invalid stream)
Anyone succesfully encoded and burnt a file and if so with what ?
This is driving me mad,the file from the RR looks good, the encoded file looks good.
But it just does not burn and play.
        Thanks for all the help.

kipper, I have had good success with Panasonic MPEG-1 encoder and then burning the CD with the latest version of Adaptec Easy CD Creator. Not only does the Panasonic encoder make great VCD stream (even scenes with fast motion look great) but Easy CD Creator, which has a checkered past, works great too. It must be your Nero package.

Couple of obvious things, but I will mention anyway:

1)make sure you select the VCD option in the encoder

2)burn the CD as a regular everyday data file. Adaptec has two choices in Easy Creator, Data CD and Audio CD. I always choose Data CD. I think some of the other packages, Nero, WinonCD, etc. make the choices far too complicated.

            I have successfully burnt a VCD2.0 compliant disk with Nero 4.0.7.0 and LSX3 ...

mpeg1, 25fps, 352x288, stereo [*not* dual channel] (defaults if you select PAL VCD from LSX)

my Hollywood+ then picks this up okay as a VCD2.0 ... however my burner only does TAO and it wouldn't playback on a friend's standalone DVDplayer ... probably needs to be burnt DAO to work there.

kipper, I did locate this info on Panasonic webpage.

              Notice]

3.The MPEG1 system stream for VideoCD does not work with "Nero" CD-R writing software.

Thanks for all the replies and help.
It turned out to be a problem with nero and the encoders.
                Downgraded to 4.0.5.0
                And all worked ok.
The encoded file was accepted and burnt succesfully.
Even worked in the dvd player.
Once again many thanks to all who replied.

kipper> please, give me some advices about capturing software what I posted into "desktop video" forum... thank you. I want to grab with my marvel g400 and do vcds, but capturing software is not friendly with me.

For video cd2 compatibility (Nero v 4.0.56) you Must set in panasonic encoder
or plug_in the type MPEG1 System (.mpg) and not VCD/Pal Stream .
I encode with this set of parameters and i've a very good quality (better then the poor
1150 kbit/s of standard VCD) and a 40-41 minutes of video (a DVD film in 3 vcd).
                    This VCD is compatible with
