  • VIDS:CVID decompressor error

At first evrything worked well. Capturing with VCR remote gave good AVI files, one night I deleted some codecs and look this is what I get:

Error message: Video not available. Cannot find VIDS:CVID decompressor.

    Who can help me

Firstly, what card are you using ?

Secondly, which particular codec are you trying to access when you get the message ?

I reckon we can get you working again PDQ as long as the Millennium bug doesn't get us all

By my calculations, that's the Cinepak codec. I believe it's part of the Windows setup. Try going into Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Windows Setup->Multimedia->Details... and try to uninstall the item "Video Compression." If that works, then go the same route and try to re-install them.

      Lotsa luck

I had the same error message occur when I first installed Half-Life with my old Real 3D
video card. Mediaplayer didn't want to play the intro video.
So I went to the Microsoft site, looked up the error message, and it told me to deinstall and reinstall the Windows mulitmedia package. You can do this by going to the control panel, add/remove programs, Windows setup tab, and uncheck the box next to Multimedia. Hit okay, then come back into Windows setup and add it. BTW, you may need your Windows 98 disk, but you may not either.

        good luck,
        Barbas
