  • G400 Marvel - Drivers

I am using the Matrox recommended "Latest" drivers for my Marvel G400. (5.30 with the 1.51 vid. tools)...... I have some intermittent lock-ups while editing video (not too frequent)... I was thinking about trying the 5.41.008 drivers since the Marvel is based on the G400 chip... Of course I will backup my system first Has anyone tried using the 5.41.008 Drivers with this card in Win98 SE?

    Hi me again
I see from your earlier posts we have similar setups
5.41 should be fine but wouldnt think the intermitten lock ups????

could you tell us more about this problem?
also try ctrl/alt/delete and then shut down pdesk
(its ok you shouldnt lose any marvel functions or anything no one knows what it does :O) and if you do when you restart it will be back again)
    see if that helps??

Interesting... I did not think of pdesk being a possible problem. I guess this is why I have been seeing posts about how to uninstall it! Thanks for the tip.. I will try to "end task" pdesk next time I lockup. Btw, do you recommend actually trying to uninstall pdesk? I could go back thru the posts and re-read the how-to.

As for my problem... It seems to occur when I try to edit sound. But it does not happen every time.. And it does happen sometimes when I am not doing any sound editing.. I also think it may have to do with my internet sharing (my mahcine is the server for 2 other pc's in the house - using the cable modem and 3 linksys phoneline pci cards). I think I read somewhere that video editing and network servers don't mix well! I know one solution would be to dual boot the box.. create a new boot system with a clean win98SE install and disable all the network stuff.. and just install the audio/video software for doing my vids...Then just boot to the "video only" partition when I want to play with video... the only problem with this is... my "clients" would not appreciate the downtime !!
sorry for the long winded post...

        dont apologise :O)

first of servers and client.. all over my head im afraid.... :O)

i hope someone else can help out

my prob with editing was using the scratchpad in Media Studio Pro.
when i tried using it it would lock up and play continuously... this only happend since i got my Mavrel G400 (was ok with my Marvel G200) i was begining to curse it when quite accidently i found that shutting down pdesk fixed the problem imediatlely..

Im told Ulead now have it as an ofical fix on their help site cos of me :O) ill have to check one day lol

But since then many others have experienced powerdesk probs which have been fixed by end tasking it. I think what the program does is keeop track of res and icon positions ect, but i have ended it and used DVDmax and zoom without problem so i dont know..
