  • Matrox G400: Is it any good for capture.

Question: how good does the Matrox g400 work for video capture under a pentium II 300 system with a large, fast hard drive.

    P-2 300
    Abit BH 6 MB
    128MB PC_100
    7200RPM 9GB Seagate

I have an ATI Rage FURY and a ATI TV-WONDER card, and want to ditch them if they will work properly under win98. Im tired of getting errors that cause me to loose capture..

    ARGH!.

I ran my Marvel G400 on a Celeron 300a system (not o/c'ed) for about a week while rebuilding this one and it worked very nicly for capture & editing.

Where it was a bit weak was on DVD playback, but that was minor and shrinking the players window on the desktop fixed it. BTW: I was sending the DVD out to the Marvels preview monitor for viewing by way of DualHead.

The Marvel really shines on a C466 or C500 system though.

        Lloyd,

Read my review of the G400-TV and get the picture. It tells you the good bits and the bad bits, and was run on a PII 266 with 96Mhz RAM.

But definitely do yourself a big favour and buy a second HD specifically for AVI capture, it will make all the difference.
