  • Marvel G400 + winNT / win2K ?

I'm thinking of buying the Marvel G400 because all of the WAY COOL features under windows 98.
But since i'm a die-hard windows NT user, I'd like to know if anyone has information about any NT / win2000 support for this card.
And what features do the standard G400 DualHead drivers make available under NT?
Oh, and is the OpenGL support really as bad as I have read?
For your information, I'll be using the card on a K6-2 350 with 128 Mb RAM.

i'm using the g400 under a dual celeron running a dual boot win98/winNT. from what i have managed to work, i can capture in win98, and perform the rest of the tasks in win NT (editing, and outputting). as for the dual head support in nt, i used the latest powerdesk for win NT, and it allows me to do the same stuff as it does in win98, although (unless i'm just not getting something) the dual head is not all that. i find it really akward. i used morgan multimedia's codec to decompress the mjpeg code. it's shareware, or $25 to keep. i don't think it's as fast as teh hardware matrox, but it gets teh job done. as of now, i don't thing there is a way to capture in win NT. anyone know for sure?

I can't say for sure if this will work, as I only have the G200 Marvel. I will say this however. I don't work for Matrox, but I'd speculate that they're probably working on Windows2000 drivers at this point, and won't support NT 4 for much longer. As you may know, the Marvel and RR-G are designed around Microsoft's DirectShow service (formerly ActiveMovie). This isn't easily implemented given the klunky and stubborn HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) in NT 4. However, Win2K is supporting DirectX 7 out of the box, so it should be much easier for Matrox to write drivers for (it appears more like Win98 in terms of APIs). You could try installing the VideoTools from the G200 Marvel with your latest version of PowerDesk, but I have no idea if this would work.

      Hope that helps,
      John
