  • Configuration with Premiere 5.1 and AGP G400 TV.

    I am a new user but have been reading a tremendous amount of material trying to understand all of this codec stuff. Let me know if I am correct on what I have learned.

    1. My G400 has a hardware MJPEG codec and any AVI files made on my machine will only work on my machine.
    2. If I take my Matrox AVI and recompress to create an AVI file using another codec such as Indeo 5.11 then other people can view it as long as they have downloaded the latest from Intel.
    3. Using another codec such as Indeo will use my cpu processor instead of my Matrox G400 card which will be slower and less quality.
    4. I should capture my movies using either PC-VCR Remote or the Avid program and then import into Premiere 5.1.

    What are the best settings to use with Premiere? These are my current settings.

    When I import I have these settings:
    General Settings:
    Editing Mode = Video for Windows
    TimeBase = 29.97
    Time Display = 30 NON Drop Frame TimeCode

    Video Settings:
    Compressor = Matrox MJPEG
    Frame Size = 704 h 480v unchecked 4:3 Aspect.
    Frame Rate = 29.97
    Recompress = unchecked (The combo box stays grayed out)
    Everything else grayed out.

    Audio Settings:
    Rate = 44hz
    Format = 16 bit stereo
    Type = Uncompressed (Cannot get any other settings to work on this selection)
    Interleave = 1 Second
    Enhanced Rate Conversion = Off
    Logarithmic audio fades = unchecked

    Key Frame Rendering Options
    All unchecked

    Capture Settings
    Capture Format = Video for Windows
    Capture Video = Checked
    FPS = 29.97
    Report Dropped Frames = Checked
    Capture Limit = Unchecked
    Capture Audio = Checked
    Rate = 44h
    Format = 16 Bit Stereo
    Type = Uncompressed (Cannot get any other settings to work on this selection)

    VFW Settings
    Video Overlay = Unchecked
    Video Format: MJPEG, Set Video Size: 704 X 480 NTSC, Full Size, HIGH MJPEG Quality,
    Video Display: Default
    Video Source: Composite, NTSC.
    Compression: No Recompression, Full Frames (I have tried both here and I get poor performance either way.)
    Driver Name: Matrox VidCap Driver version 2.00.00.00

    I am running Power Desk 5.41. Special note do not use [override] NoDirectShow=1 as suggested by Adobe in your prem50.ini file. No video if you do. PD 5.25 had no problems with this either way.

    With the above settings I can edit but I cannot export movie using Matrox MJPEG.

    How can I configure Adobe’s settings so I can export to movie using MJPEG?

    Should I try another Codec like Morgan and if I do will it be using the Card’s chip or the computers processor.

    Any suggestions or directions would help. The error I get is disk is full. I have 500mg on a 17 gig HD. 9-10 transfer rate.

    Thank You!

    Stan
