I don't think this is an irq problem cuz he's getting corrupted data and missing hard drives. What happens if you disable the Highpoint controller?

    Ciao

If something is conflicting with his IDE controller, you would definately get corrupted data... dunno about the missing drives tho. It never normally happens cos IRQ 14 and 15, where the standard IDE controllers go, are reserved for the use of these controllers. The 66 controller has been hacked onto these Abit boards and given has an IRQ that is not reserved in any way, so conflicts can and do occur, causing major IDE transfer problems.

I agree though, disabling the 66 controller, by moving the hdd to a standard controller, would be a good step.

        hi again,
        the highpoint IRQ is 11
the marvel is on ten sharing with an IRQ sharing
When all was well with my Jetway Motherboard it was on 11 with an IRQ sharing

I have tried my maxtor on my motherboard IDE channel and it was still the same,

and far as i know i cant disable the highpoint controllerm no wait i could disable it in the system properties in my computer couldnt I.

i dont think it would help though cos if that was the prob then Mjpeg files would play fine of C and D but not E if you see what i mean!!!

What motherboards do you guys have

What i think im gonna do now is wait till tomorrow then take out the ABIT and put the JETWAY back in. Would you guys concur with that?
My system is primarily for Video editing, then for DVD's and games.
So Mjpeg payback is of high importance

So would you agree thats the best course of action, do you reckon ill be able to get my £100 back on the motherboard, this is assuming all is well when i put the jetway back in :O)

          just another thought,
even if all was well with nothing conected to the highpoint. That kinda defeats the point of getting a board with 4 ide channels doesnt it????
i wanted them spare to add another hard drive later this year so even if that worked, i would still be screwed in the long run.
SO what do you think my problem is?

          Motherboard?
          Marvel?
          God hates me?
and what would you do next in my situation?

Yeah, thats probably a good plan. esp if you just got the Abit for the UDMA-66 support.
btw if you just remove all the drives from the 66 controller it says something along the lines of 'no drives detected, bios not installed' on startup and that disables it.

Anyhow, I'm off to bed now cos its 4am:P

Disable the highpoint to see if the problems go away. If they do, then the problem is either the hard drive or the highpoint controller. You can do this thru device manager but Raptor's advice is better since the bios of the highpoint won't get loaded. Strange though why it wouldn't be in your system bios under on board peripherals.

Then try capturing and playing back on your c and d to see if all is ok.

                Hey, you've tried everything else

                Ciao

Problem is probably related to UDMA66 and overclocking... Try removing/disabling your DMA66 controller from the MBD... and hooking up your drives to the DMA33 IDE controller. See if the problems persist.

Updating the BIOS is always a good idea....

                    Hi Grim hippy
id love to agree with you, but im not overclocked, ive tried with no devices on UDMA 66 controller and the first thing i did was update the bios and get the latest UDMA 66 drivers
                    so noe what?
also and this is weired see,

i woke up this morning and was all set to switch motherboards back.. so i went to show my cousin how the Mjpeg video files play jerkily and they were (mostly) fine a great inmprovement on before. but they playback jerky on my monitor??????????
                    mostly fine on my TV?????

i just dont know whats goin on!

I don't know whats up with the TV / monitor playback thing, if it worked on the monitor, but not TV I could understand.
I have had a couple of other thoughts tho
I thought I read somewhere that the Maxtor drive is new? If you didn't use it on the old system it could be the drive itself is faulty.
I also saw some1 suggest you remove all the non essential cards from the system and try it then, with just the graphics card in. Did you do this? You will prob have to install Windows again, cos if one of the cards is causing probs your windows install will be broken.

                        yeah i tried it.
i got a warnign saying there would be no sound.... and then i STILL got a jerky video file.

its back as it was now.. i have old captured files that it jerks with, and even newly captured stuff.
My maxtor drive is out of the equasion now. I have everything going fine (touch wood) apart from video playback... i guess it must be a motherboard incompatability???
                        ive tried
                        reseating the card,
                        pulling everything out,
                        changing IRQ's,
                        chainging hard drives,
screwing up my eyes really tight and hoping,

the only thing i am sure of is that i never had a problem playing back Mjpeg file with my Jetway via chipset motherboard.
so now im gonna do a search to see if anyone else has fixed playback probs in the forums and if i cant find anything when my pal cums down later tonite im gonna put the jetway back in and see what happens then
unless any of you guys can think of anything more?

                          A BREAKTHROUGH??? kind of

in the archives of MURC i found this http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002221.html

where a fellow BE6 owner describes the exact problem i have... He resigned himself to put up with it, but surely that defeats the purpose of having a marvel. and the ability to video capture?

i wonder is this an inherrant problem bewteen the marvel and the BE6???
