  • RRS can't capture full size video in AVI_IO?

    Hi,

I got a RRS recently and it's getting me mad. I can capture video all sizes in PC-VCR with no problem, but I can't capture full size and half size in AVI_IO and MSP52. I can only capture CIF and QCIF. The full size and half size options are grey, which can't be checked.

Can somebody help me on this? Do I need to install something? I'm using VT1.2 and PD4.31

BTW, does RRS have a HW mpeg decoder or decode in SW?

    Thanks a lot!!!

          Hello,
I also can only capture in PC-VCR with no problem, but can only choose between CIF and QCIF in AVI_IO and MSP. Full size and half size are grey and can't be checked.I called tech support at Ulead and they told me MSP is unable to capture in 704x480. Only above sizes.
My system: PII 350, 196 megs ram, 9 gig ultra wide 2 SCUZI dedicated to capture, WIN 98.

Cuddles, why does your system work and ours doesn't????? Will it capture full size using MSP Capture?? Would you please give us your system specs.

          Also:
does RRS have a HW mpeg decoder or decode in SW?
I do not know what this is.
          Thanks

            Hi quick question.
If you had a previous ver of MSP, did you uninstall it?
Had same problem ,uninstalled previous (2.5)
            Everything then worked.

              Hi,

You guys should be able to capture in full size and half size. I'm not sure why Ulead would have told you otherwise.

Have you run the Matrox HD Benchmark utility to establish the registry entries that affect this?

                My specs
                Acer 100mghz pent (no frills)
                40 mg ram
                Myst220/RRS
                W/95 version A

At full frame i drop a few frames as I do not have enough ram.
Markus has advised that with AVI_IO enough ram is important.
In MSP5.02 VE I can capture full frames @ medium quality.
                Try m.zingg@nct.ch

                  Hi Fengzi,

Although I haven't checked it out recently.

When I first got my Mystique220/RRS I couldn't record in full resolution on my RRS if the display colour resolution was set higher than 16-bit.

                  Hope this helps,

                  Nick

                    That did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Changing from 24bit color to 16 bit did the trick. Can now capture at full size. Thanks a bunch.

                      Yeah! It works!!!
Thanks a lot to everybody for your kind help!

But does it mean the video quality of full/half size is only in 16bit color and can't be captured in 24bit? Or the display color has nothing to do with the video capture quality?

                      also:
about RRS's mpeg playback, Matrox say "Full motion hardware MPEG1 video playback ". Does it mean RRS has a chip for hardware mpeg playback? and what is it? How about RRG 'cos I don't find this in Matrox's RRG specs.

                        Hi Guys,

The MJPEG:s will be 24bit irrespective of the Display settings.

You should only use 16bit or 32bit Desktop colour depth, this is AFAIK also mentionned in the Manual and the readme files.

When you install new drivers (VideoTools), you should ALLWAYS run the Matrox HD Benchmark first, before doing anything else with the VideoCapturing hardware.
If your results are ~3.5MB/sec or more, you will get the full res option for MJPEG in PC-VCR and also in Ulead VidCap.

The Matrox HD Benchmark writes the results into the Registry, where the PC-VCR etc... are checking it to determine the possible capturing resolutions.

                        Pertti
