mpeg capture

I read a while ago about some codec that would allow most software based capture cards to capture straight to mpeg. Obviously it wouldnt work for the Marvel or RR, but i do have a friend with an ATI AiW 4 Meg PCI. That and id like to test it with these crap 3D card capture thingies.
