  • G200 and Premiere 5.0

I'm new to this forum but I think I've carefully reviewed all the previous topics. After a few weeks struggle it appears that I have finally got Prem 5.0 running with my Marvel G200. The problem is that I need to output a project to tape that will be about 4 gigs or roughly 20 minutes. It seems clear that playing back from the timeline is not supported by the G200??? (pretty choppy)So obviously I am going to have a problem with the 2 gig avi limit. A couple of questions:

    1) Since I prefer the ui of Premiere can I edit the whole project and export it...will Premiere have a problem exporting an avi that is larger than 2 gigs?

    2) If that is possible can I then use MS Pro to play it back from the timeline and record it to tape?

    3) Or should I just edit the whole thing in MS Pro?

    4) Or am I screwed any way I turn?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I went through the same as you back in September. The BBS seemed to come to the conclusion that AP5 wouldn't work well and to use MSPro5.2. I must agree with you that the UI is better on AP5.

I don't know if you got Avid Cinema with your card. If you did then an on going discusssion on was round it's limitations is going on under,
    TOPIC: avid cinema 1.0
    TOPIC STARTER: dishon
It's a bit cumbersome for major projects but may be a quick fix for 'quick' projects.

Lets hope Adobe get their finger out and fix the program.

Just a thought, I haven't tried this with Prem 5 and a Marvel. (and I'm not over-familiar with Prem). Can you stop the overlay within Premiere while previewing via the TV output ? That should stop the choppiness.

Ok guys thanks for the help...I think I've got it figured out. By the way, TI I tried your idea...couldn't get it to work but I think you're on to something. Anyway, I'm going to edit in Premiere and export smaller segments as avis and then import them to MS PRO and playback from the timeline while I record to tape. I originally didn't think this would work because I have a continuous audio soundtrack (20 minutes)that I don't want an audible break in. But the good news is that the project is a music video which doesn't require any video sync so I can bring that into MSPRo and play it back from the timeline while all my avis play back.
