  • Possible RRG/G400 Work Around

Following the advice in some of the posts, I've lowered my resolution from 1600x1200-32bit to 800x600-16bit, and have so far had flawless captures. 800x600-32bit still wouldn't capture smoothly, neither would 1600x1200-16bit. Switching back to 1600x1200-32bit for editing is a dream on my 19" monitor. I've noticed that playing back the raw footage occasionally shows the artifacts, but a reboot usually clears it up, and editing in MSP5.2 is clean.

    My configuration:
    ABIT-BE6
    PIII-500
    128MB RAM
    13.3GB Ultra 66 7200RPM
    18GB Ultra 66 5400RPM
    SBLive Value
    Matrox G400 DH -32
    Matrox RainbowRunner G-Series
    PD 5.50.005 Beta
    VT 1.51

Are you saying that you change the desktop settings to 800x600x16 run capture only and then go back to 1600x1200x32 for everything else?

Yup. It's worked great so far. I've been putting it through a number of tests capturing with various MJPEG qualities and capture resolutions. 800x600-16 has been perfectly clean so far. I switch back to 1600x1200 for everything else (800x600 on a 19" monitor is HUGE).

Just as a note, although I don't have a G400/RRG (I have a Matrox Marvel G200), but I have noticed some problems capturing at 32bit at all. I generally find things stable as long as it's 1280x1024 or lower res @ 16 bit depth. (I run 1280x1024 @16 in NT and it works amazingly well)
