  • PC/TV in 32Bit

I just loaded the new V.Tools and have noticed that they work in 32 Bit Colour.
Am i wrong or did they only work in 16 Bit before.
I captured some video and all seems fine.

Yes they do work in 32bit, but it is recomended if want to capture video you set your desktop to 1024x768 16bit colour.

Why is it recommended to set your desktop to 16-bit color if the drivers work in 32-bit color? Either it supports 32-bit mode or it doesn't.

16-bit might buy a little extra speed that might make a difference on a marginal system, but if the drivers truely support 32-bit color and your system is fast enough, I'd like to know why 16-bit is "recommended".

First of all, I'm recommending this not Matrox.

And I recommend 16 bit because I have the Marvel G400 with 16mb ram so by running the Marvel at 1024x768 16 bit gives me a bit more memory to spare.
Besides you said it, it's faster my machine is a PII 400 so I need all the speed I can get.

hmmm. 32 bit. So these new tools are better than the prior release in more than just bug fixes? Would the 32 bit depth mean I could make better jpegs with my G200 and also capture more color from my videotape or does the 32 bit have more to do with speed than quality? I'm not ready to venture into the new tools but I am curious about them.

I'm using video tools 1.51, and with my desktop at 1024x768@32-bit, I'm having no trouble using PC-VCR and capturing from it.

I've also been using 32-bit color with no problems that go away after switching back to 16-bit. I'm using PD 5.3 AND VT 1.51

I did fire up my first two simple AVID Cinema projects for a test and after dismissing the "needs 16-bit color" dialog box everything worked as good as it ever did before (i.e. barely useful).

So I see no reason to run 16-bit color for capture or editing, and 32-bit color makes the rest of my windoze experience less painful.

Hmmm. I didn't see if Virtual Dub still crashed after the second or third capture in 16-bit mode. But this is very much like what Premiere does, and it crashes hard bringing up scandisk, so I'm not gonna try and debug this! Especially after buying AVI_IO which does just fine.
