You're probably right. I would guess
Avid will sell the software alone for
around $2,000. But I could be wrong.
Will I buy it? No. But you know how
some folks think Avid can do no wrong.
Especially those folks who've worked in
Avid shops where they've cut their teeth
on the Media Composer product.
Speaking of Avid, when I was talking to some friends who work in a video studio I was told to go with Avid Cinema, because "Avid is the leader in the market and anything they make must be pretty good" Sure glad I didn't listen. . .
Back to MSP now, any word on when it will be released in the U.S. - I have not even found it listed except at uleadasia.com - It will be nice when they have the trial ready for download too (but I already know I'll be buying it)
One thing is for sure though: you guys are in for a treat. The new interface works very nicely and several old feature issues have been cleared up and even enhanced.
Two excellent examples are ripple editing and the crawl speed of the built in titler.
Ripple editing now works as push-away, single or multiple. The titler can now really make that text creep. And I do mean ssslllooowwww. You can still choose to use the old canned title duration labels (very fast, fast etc.) or you set your own custom duration.
This duration can literally be hours long if you need it to be. The result is total control, down to the frame, over the titles crawl speed/duration.
The title preview also shows in the main preview window as well as on the title properties page. This gives you a much better idea of how it will look when its output to tape.
Add to those the improvements in Video Capture's device control, the Ligos GoMotion MPEG 1/2 engine, the interface with it's floating timeline, preview & source windows and you have a product that has very obviously undergone a major rewrite.
What really impressed me over and above the new features and interface was the high level of stability MSPro 6 had as beta software. This speaks volumes about the MSPro 6 programmers.

I can see it supports win2k, but do u know if there are any form of SMP support built in? (like in the soft. codecs).
Does MSP 6.0 install it's own DV codec's into the system, or are we dependent of getting those ourself for the os?
Doc? Can you answer the good questions
posed by Dragmore? Seems we saw the
answer to these questions recently on
