  • Two quick questions about the G400TV.

We are about to purchase this card and I just have to check out two things.

1)Can we edit the files we capture from this card in Adobe Premier both on the computer with the G400TV and on others(I would assume we would have to use the morgan codec or something)

    2) For this card will a good 27+GB 5400RPM UDMA drive work?

    Thanks a ton,
    -cheez

    Hi Cheezwiz,

we will officially support Ulead MSPro and our bundled version of Avid Cinema.

Reason why we won't support Premiere is because we never submitted our card for Adobe certification. Some people do have premiere working but many others have no luck.

If it does work for you, you don't have to use the morgan codec. Premiere will see our vidcap driver.

But if it doesn't work, will the morgan codec work?

If we have to perform the capturing outside of Adobe Premier in vidcap or whatever, can we still edit those files inside Adobe Premier?

This is fairly important because we are buying the card soon, possibly tommorow and need it too be able to edit with Adobe Premier.

        Cheezwiz,
I have a Marvel G200TV (so it should be similar to the G400 version), and can use Premiere to edit fine. I can capture, but as soon as I stop the capture, Premiere freezes... however I feel this is an issue with Windows NT, and most likly would work fine under 98.

          John,

Sorry to tell you but capture also freezes after its finished in win 98, i could never understand why.

Yes you can edit those files inside of premiere. You can use any capture program you like and then import that capture into Ulead or Premiere.

The only limitation you will have is that you won't be able to capture in Avid Cinema and then import it into Ulead or Premiere.

But does the G400TV come with a suitable capture program that is not avid cinema?

It comes with the Matrox PC-VCR, that you can use, but unlike with some other cards , you are not limited to the supplied ones
You CAN use whatever capturing program.

                  Pertti:
Yes, it is true that you can capture with other programs through the vidcap driver, but my own experience with the Marvel G400 is that with external programs the audio is always mono, never stereo.
Or am I missing something here?

I am watching the TV and it's worthless.
If I switch it on it is even worse.

AVI_IO is also an excellent substitute capture program if you're not enchanted with PC-VCR - shareware, too.
