Hrm, AVI_IO shows two Matrox Vidcap drivers. Perhaps this is why i'm continuing to experience difficulties? Thing is, I uninstalled the vid tools thru the control panel. I then uninstalled powerdesk, ran the uninstall thing. I went thru the registery and deleted any remaining references to Matrox. I deleted any files left that were matrox related (except for inet cache and non-relevant files).

Still, garbage frames lead ot black and white lead to Ulead crashing with RRICMEXT.DLL failing when capturing in desktop resolutions higher than 800x600.

Is this just my system, or did Matrox not fix the bug fully? Any help would be appreciated.

        Coolfish,

It's gotta be your sytem because I do not experience this problem with the new driver at all.

You must be sharing IRQ's or something that's causing the crash, could also be your card.

Can you post your IRQ settings please?

        Thanks,
        Elie

OK then do you want to drop back to AGP 1X to see if that fixes the problem.

I'm just taking this one step at a time.

I guess your problem is due to the way you uninstalled VT. Matrox give precise instructions how to do this. From previous experience, it is necessary to follow these instructions to the letter. I suggest you re-uninstall using the Matrox method, reboot and install again.

BTW, many software makers install "anonymous" lines in the registry which cannot be identified, for diverse reasons. These may even be encrypted. This includes, of course, such things as installation dates for time-bombed demo software, which are left in after uninstalling. I mention this because you can never guarantee removing everything that a software has put in by going through it manually.

Hrm. What procedure would that be? This is what I did:

removed VT software with control panel. Ran Matrox Uninstall utility. Rebooted, installed 5.41 drivers. REbooted yet again. Installed VT 1.52. Was I supposed to sacrifice a goat in there somewhere?

                  Coolfish,

With the newly released drivers, the problems you describe are gone.

If you have another HD, you could try making a fresh installation of the OS and just the MediaStudio5.2, and install the latest PD and VT.

btw, where are you located, and are you using non-English OS or PD/VT ?

                    Pertti,

uh-uh, no way, not going to happen. my win98 install is rock solid right now, not going to reinstall just cuz something ain't going right. that's not the way to do it -- reinstall everytime something goes wrong.

What files does Uninstall not get rid of? What registery settings remain after uninstalling?

Pertti I'm in Ontario, Canada. Using English OS and English drivers, ofcoz.

                      Coolfish,

I am in U.S. and use G200TV. No problems with setup, but, should I get these new tools anyway? Current Videotools 1.21.045 and Powerdesk 4.26.032. Thanks.

                            Hi Coolfish!
I had the same problem with an older driver: two VidCaps! I thought, the driver before was not completely deinstalled and so I did a complete new windows installation to try it out. I installed the driver inly once, but had two vidcaps again. I posted in this forum, but received no helping hint. Perhaps you post your problem there again, to bring it again to the top of the list....

                              Dchip,

If it ain't bust, don't fix it ! This driver release is primarily to fix some problems with G400s. Don't bother to use them for a G200, at least not until you've seen plenty of feedback on them !

                                Gotta agree with our moderator.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Also agree with Coolfish as to reformatitng and reinstalling Win9x as a way to "fix" broken driver installs. Last refuge of incompetent driver writers.

I alos have two Matrox capture drivers in my AVI_IO capture device menu, but since everyting is working fine I leave well enough alone. Took far too long to get here.

I have several systems to play with and I verified that fresh install was not the solution to the problems I had which ultimately was bad a G200Marvel-TV card which Matrox tech support was unable to diagnose or admit as a possibility until I got downright nasty about it. Took me two RMAs to get a 100% working system (initial replacement "worked" with the drivers I was having troubles with but couldn't display red colors (turned into oranges) on an output back to tape).

I'll not touch new drivers until I hear reports of them: (a) fixing the black bar on transcode problem, or (b) that they officially support Win2000 (and work!) so I can dump the POS, house of cards that is Win9x!

                                --wally.
