How to split a large AVI capture file up?

I have captured a large AVI file (1.9GB) using MJPEG compression via PC-VCR. I now want to use a program to break it into clips and store each of these as separate AVI files. I have Premier but cannot find a way to do it. I do have Avid Cinema but takes too long to load in the original file?
Any tips?

Get Virtual Dub from
http://www.geocities.com/virtualdub/

and then open the avi file, then save as segmented avi file
