How do you restore AVI recording files?

Somehow I've lost the ability to record AVI type files on any movie/animation program on my system. Anybody got any ideas on how to restore all the necessary files, recorders, drivers?
My G400TV will record the file but shows and ERROR MESSAGE: "Unable to read the file information" It displays: frames captured, frames dropped, but NO file size, media length, audio format, video format. Hmmm???

A good place to start when you are having problems such as this are the FAQ's on the Matrox site.

22. Error message- VIDPRESS error "Unable to read file information".
- Try uninstalling and reinstalling the Video Tools. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the Matrox Video Tools.

- In some cases it may be necessary to uninstall and then reinstall the display drivers as well.

- If the error message persists, it may be necessary to reinstall Windows on top of itself.

Yes, I've done the updated driver thing. I carefully followed the directions for removing all traces of Matrox and MGA files / directories and looked for entries in the registry. Then installed:
Display driver 4.11.011410
Mini VDD same
Power Desktop 5.41.008
Bios 1.5-11(TV NTSC)
Direct Draw 4.11.01.1410
DirectX 4.07.00,0700

I have a tech help E-mail form into Matrox right now, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Yea, I think you're right. Seems like a system problem, although there's probably someone out there who knows just what driver or what win.ini command line, etc. to change.

I just got this home-built system up and running after waiting for a bad CPU to be replaced. (It didn't exactly turn out to be a Christmas present. More like a late January present.)

The good part is that had very little problem with any install or update.

Athlon 600>700, K7M, 128MB, 27.2 GB, SB Platinum, DVD, CD_WR, USB scanner

As it turns out, getting the G400-TV output to record on a VCR was my biggest headache. Don't know why or how but I got it to work. Should have read the directions better Somewhere between reinstalls and updating drivers, something got goofed up.

I really hate to screw anything up right now, since everything else is working so well, BUT, being the techno-fanatic that I am...well you know the rest.

I'll try a Windows reinstall.
