  • Once again MiroVideo DC10+ or RainbowRunner G-series – please help me to choose

    Hi everyone!
I’m sorry for asking this question again (I read the similar question on this forum some days ago, but that Q&A was useless for me).
The main goal is to capture and edit my home movies (which I have 20-30 of 45 minutes tapes), and then write them back to tape WITHOUT LOSS OF QUALITY (in the future, maybe, on CDR/DVD-RAM).
Rainbow Runner cheaper (in Moscow RR-G costs $165, DC10 – $250), has a TV tuner, and probably can make all I need.
DC10+ has a bit better horizontal resolution, can work with better compression (3:1), but I don’t know need I all of this or not. Maybe RR-G can do this either?
Has DC10+ better quality of capture/write back? Has it more abilities? Such as color correction, brightness, contrast – for correction of defects in video (for instance invalid illumination).
I never worked with any computer video capture board.
I read a lot about problems with RR-G on this forum and I can’t understand –can I work comfortably with RR-G or not? Many strange “black boxes” put me in a little shock.
I hear, also, that RR-G tuner can’t work with D/K system – is it true?
    My PC: MB – Asus P3BF, Pentium III 450Mhz, 96 Mb RAM, HDD IBM DJNA371350 (UDMA66, 7200rpm, 13,5Gb), Matrox G400 DH 32Mb, SB LIVE! Value, CD-ROM 8x, Genius LAN GE2500III SE PCI Ethernet Adapter (10Mbit), Floppy 3”, case – ASUS FK-600.
    I use Windows 98.
My camcorder – Panasonic NV-VX7 (VHS), VCR – Sony SLV-436EE (VHS)
In future I plan to add some RAM (up to 160-224 Mb), maybe buy another HDD.
All advices are very welcome! (E-Mail: dmitroom@mtu-net.ru)

    Can anyone help?
I've got a lot of answers from Pinacle users forum and all are very bad for RR-G.

I have the same problem as you. Miro DC10+ or Marvel G400 (from Matrox). I have a lot about the two cards and I think that the DC10+ gives a lot of problems with the installation. I find this problem on every video-newsgroup in the Netherlands. A plus is (for me) that it has a manuel in Dutch.
I have seen the software they use, and that is very good and easy. But I am going to buy the Marvel G400 because it is so easy to install (and I am a newbie on video-editing and not so good in the technical things on a computer!)
If you are interested I will let you know if I like the Marvel. I will get my new computer with the Marvel in about 4-5 weeks.

      Greetings from the Netherlands. Ron.

        Hi Ron!
I asked the same quastion in Pinnacle's forum webboard.pinnaclesys.com and had a lot of answers. So, if you want, you can go there and see.
I decided to buy DC10+, because its greater data rate.
And I think, that if you prefer RR-G it will be better for you to buy G400 DH 32 Mb + RR-G
not Marvel - combo cards always worse.
