I can't get the CPUBenchmark program included in the Video Tools to run. I only get an error message stating that it "Couldn't open the compressor". I have tried reinstalling the tools but it still fails. Any ideas? Is this program useful?

Elie, I'll take that as CPUBenchmark isn't worthwhile....

Here is what is behind the question. I am trying out the direct MPEG4 capture using my RR-G/G400 capture card with the registry hack for YUY2. I have a 450MHz PIII and was trying to capture at full resolution (640x480) but I get a 45% dropped frame rate. It isn't the hard disk that is causing the drops but I assume the time to execute the compression algorithm. I expected better from what I have read in this forum. Just trying to diagnosis the problem. Thanks.

        In wich program?
AVI/IO resets the reghack so it drops frames like hell.
Virtualdub works great as it doesent reset if you dont ask it to.
But virtualdub has worse segmented file handling!

I am just using VidCap from within MSPro5.2 VideoCapture. What is VirtualDub. I have seen it refered to several times.

With my PIII 500 Xeon 512k I can only capture at NTSC VCD (352x240x29.97) with the YUY2 -> MPEG4 trick... At 352x480x29.97 I drop about 10% of the frames.... at 640x480x29.97 I drop about 25%... I make VCDs mostly so I just capture directly to that resolution... Those numbers are both from AVI_IO which I use to capture in YUY2 all the time...
