  • Okay... one more kick at the old gripe... black borders on RR-G / Marvel captures

I was working with Moving paths last night. I'm going to have to completely re-think how to make it work without being reaaaaally ugly.

Problem - the captured avi file has a black border on the top and left sides. This isn't visible when output to TV, because it's far enough away from the visible tube, and for some reason, it's not even visible when played back in the PC-VCR application (I suspect because it's automatically compensated for).

But in a moving path situation on a white background, it's ugly as heck. My solution for this one may be to have my moving path on black background rather than white. Alternately, some sort of re-sampling with a crop filter could be done but, like I want to wait four hours for the thing to re-render, and lose quality in the re-compression.

I'd love to have video input control.

Hey, what'd I tell you guys before?

Here's how I solve it, using MSP:

    1. Put the Crop filter on the clip. Crop off the top and left borders, check "Stationary," look at the last keyframe to make sure everything's the same at the end. Pick some weird random color like fuchsia for the filler.

    2. Go into Overlay options and simply click on whatever odd color you picked in the preview window. That's it; you shouldn't have to adjust anything else. The options will default to Color Key, 0% similarity, etc.

    3. There is no three. Problem solved.

      P.S. If you're doing a motion path, it'll be re-rendered anyways.
