  • Bug in new Vid Tools - Haig/Olliver plz take a look

Any one experience this aside from me? In PC-VCR, I have a hotkey (numpad del) set up to capture. I have 10gigs free for the drive (so space is not a problem for what i'm capturing). BTW this is capturing from the tv-tuner. Anyway, I press the numpad del to record, and for some reason instead of recording for as long as i want, it records for about 2-3 minutes, and then stops. This is really annoying when trying to record a show. It happens randomly (IE sometimes when i capture, it works OK, sometimes it doesn't. More often it works fine).

Another annoying bug is that PCVCR automatically mutes out my line-in, even though this is my audio feed (and set as such in the recording properties).

Any help? Thanks. (btw this is capturing at 800x600x16 desktop rez cuz any higher and i get garbald frames ala vid tools 1.51)

    Hi Coolfish,

IF you try a different key combination does the samething happen?

Also regarding the audio, PC-VCR thinks that your source audio is not your line in, so what you have to do is launch Quick Connect to set all the Source parameters correctly.

    Good luck,
    Elie

I captured most of the day using the delete key as a hot key and had no problems.

Is it possible that some app in your system or even a tsr has the same hot key pre-defined?

Do you have the same problems when you assign a different key?

I tried mapping it to the 0 key on the numpad. Twice I was able to record properly, and then the third time it counted down from 2 minutes until stopping (PC-VCR showed 2 minutes after I pressed 0, and counted down to 0 before it stopped recording). So, it isn't key dependent.

Also, I ran quick connect to setup the TV Tuner, but it continues to mute my line-in on loading PC-VCR. is there a registery setting to set which audio channel it mutes or uses?

Well here's what I think is happening...

As a feature built into PC-VCR if you click on the record buton more than once you can select the duration it records starting I guess from 2 minutes and up.
So in your case that key combination is acting as a double click starting the record countdown from 2 minutes process.
You could be hitting the keys a bit too fast as well.

I once had that problem were PC-VCR was muting the wrong input in the mixer, I just kept playing around till I got it to except the right input nothing too serious

          Cheers,
          Elie

Ahh.. I see. Well, imho, that's a stupid feature. "hitting the key too fast may result in different behaviour" is definately a bug imho, and not a feature. If I wanted to do a timed-record, I have a "timer" already built in.

IMO, this "feature" causes more problems than any benifits, and should be re-worked (IE mapping the "function" to seperate key). Haig, please forward this to the driver dudes.... thanks..

This is a feature as most new VCR's have this behaivor but they usualy counts down from 30 min.

But they could have it pointed out in the tooltip!

                Coolfish,

Just don't hit the record key twice in a row

                That's not a bug, it's a feature!

Chill dude it's a great feature IMHO, there are people that will need something like this and others don't.

It's there now and I need it please don't get rid of it Haig.

                Regards,
                Elie

So if the key repeat is the problem, couldn't you just go into the keyboard control panel and turn down the repeat delay? Or if the that is not it, couldn't there be a toggle to enable/disable that feature so that those that want it can use it and those that don't want it don't have to worry about accidentally trigger it? Just my two cents!

Maybe one could use a six-pack to cure the problem

it *is* a bug.. i don't wanna have to change my repeat rate (which is set at the fastest) because that allows me to type my fastest and edit my documents quickly.

and if they _are_ going to have it, why NOT make it somethign reasonable, like 30 minutes, why something really silly small like 2-3 minutes?

Sorry guys but it's not a bug. It's a timer feature that increments by 2 minutes if you click on rec or use a hot key to record within 4 seconds of each click or key press.

All you have to do is not to click within 4 seconds of your capture or else the timer will kick in. If it does, you can use your mouse to stop the capture.

There are 2 ways of using this feature:

1 - Use your mouse to click on record. Within 4 seconds, you click on record again and the 2 minute timer will start. Within 4 seconds of your last click, you click on record again and you will add another 2 minutes to your timer.

2 - Same as above but using a hot key.

                        Haig
