  • Help! G400 Marvel + MJPEG + Premiere 5.1c

    I hope this has not been answered before...
    If yes, please forgive me and direct me to the answer.

    I have problems with Matrox MJPEG video and Premiere 5.1.
    These can be summarized as follows:

    1. Slow response of the program when moving around in a clip. Sometimes stops for as long as 10 seconds before even starting building a preview or before showing the (new) current frame in the monitor.

    2. Strange behaviour of the source window. Sometimes (many actually) when I start playing the clip it cannot be stopped.
    I have to mock Alt + Ctrl + Del, and press Cancel, when the Task Manager appears, to convince Premiere to stop playing.
    Note: When going awry, the source window does not show any video. I can only hear the audio. No other program responds during these stubborn periods...

    3. Overlay problems. When the focus is on the monitor window the picture sticks there and I cannot do such trivial things as trimming an edit. I have to double click on some other clip so as to bring it on the source window, make sure that the focus is on that window, and only then I am able to see what I trim.

    These problems do not occur with avi's (or mov's for that matter) that use another codec
    (ie. indeo).

    What I ve done till now is converting the MJPEG source files to Indeo files, and working with the new ones. It works, but it sounds stupid to me.

    Another alternative is Morgan MJPEG, I know (no such problems with Morgan), but rendering even of the most trivial kind takes ages...

    Thanks in advance.

    Did you edit the Prem50.ini? It is located in the settings folder of the Premiere program folder. It should have the following:

    [Override]
    NoDirectShow=1

    [codec]
    keepopen=dmb1

    I hope this helps. Another note though, there are some quirks with Premiere and the Marvel. If you try frame by frame advances in the source window, you will lose the frame (black). I would try Ulead MSP5.2, it seems to really like the Marvel. I have a copy on order after trying the trial version. I also have a copy of v6.0. The interface is sweet, but It acts just like Premiere with the dmb1 codec. Hope this helps.

      Sciascia, thanks for the answer.

      The problem is that having
      [codec]
      keepopen=dmb1
      the overlay problems are enormous. Some frames decide to appear on the monitor and they wont go away... (I have read it elsewhere in this forum, too...)
      But you gave me an idea. I deleted
      [Override]
      NoDirectShow=1
      and now the preview window starts and stops as ordered, but! as you say if i make frame advances, I lose the frame.
      Hmmm.

      Could someone inform me if there are other hidden entries for this prem50.ini file that could be useful?

      pwei

      PS. I had an idea. I will try
      keepopen=MJPG
      to see what happens.

        I'm using Morgam MJPEG codec:
        Editing AVI file (Matrox MJPEG) using HEX editor:
        00000070: 64, 4D
        00000071: 6D, 4A
        00000072: 62, 50
        00000073: 31, 47
        000000C4: 64, 4D
        000000C5: 6D, 4A
        000000C6: 62, 50
        000000C7: 31, 47
        AVI file begin use Morgan MJPEG codec...
        Working in Premiere 5,1...
        Create final project using Matrox resolution...
        Backing change in final AVI file...
        Playing files -> matrox output

          Hei, MasterHome!

          Quite an eccentric approach, I must admit.
          I will try it to see what happens

          thanks

          BTW: keepopen=MJPG didnt help much...
