  • IRQ Problem with Marvel G400

Yes I'm posting this again... I desperatly need help.
I just got the card. It's the Matrox Marvel G400-TV. The capture worked the
first day. But the next day when I tried to capture pressing the record
button in the TV Remote, a error message comes up saying:
    -----------------------------------------
Unable to record using the current settings.
Make sure the path to your recording is still valid. If it is, try lowering
the record settings on the "Recording" property sheet, or lower your display
resolution and color palette settings. (A 16-bit color palette is
recommended) If you're still unable to record, try reinstalling your Matrox
    video software.
    ------------------------------------------
I tried changing resolutions. I also uninstalled and
reinstalled the new drivers/video utils many times. The same error message occurred in
other resolutions also. The TV tuner works. I can see the picture and
everything. TV Out is fine also. It's just the capturing got messed up
somehow. I also have a STB TV Tuner which is still in my computer. When i
first installed the matrox everything worked great. But then I uninstalled
all the STB drivers. Im not sure if this caused the problem. I took out the STB card and it still wasn't working.
I made sure that all the drivers for the device were uninstalled.
I also got another problem. I cannot output AVI's. I can output
MPEG's but the sound is gone. When I output a realmedia video it works fine
with sound+audio. Please help me out if you got any additional info. I
really need to be able to capture again soon... It was all working great
till today. I have already emailed Tech support but I have heard that
    sometimes they dont answer...

My Marvel G400 is sharing IRQ 09 with my Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V
Sound card, it is the ES1371 chip. I don't know how to change the IRQs.
I have taken out my STB card and reinstalled the drivers for the Marvel and
still have gotten nowhere... Please help me out
    Thanx

It is fatal to share an IRQ between Marvel and SB. The first thing is to list your IRQs and find out if you have an unused one. If so, well and good. Go into your BIOS set up (the actual terminology changes from computer to computer, so it is not possible to quote what you need verbatim). You will find one heading on the menu that says something like PCI setup. If you enter it, it will probably say that the IRQ settings are automatic. Change that to manual. Then allocate the slot in which you have the sound card to the blank IRQ - and Bob's your uncle after saving the results.

The crunch comes when you don't have a spare IRQ - you must create one. The first thing to look for is two entries for SB. If you have this, it means you have emulation for some prehistoric DOS games enabled. Follow the SB instruction to disable this emulation: this will free up the used IRQ (usually 5) and, at the next boot up, everything should become OK. If not, force the IRQ/PCI relationship as described above. If you don't have SB emulation enabled, then disable the USB IRQ, assuming you don't use any USB devices. If you do, see whether you can force them to share e.g. the printer IRQ.

    Hope this helps.

My bios suck. I got the Phoenix Bios 4M4PBOX1.15A.0018.P09 The only selections other than auto are to share the IRQ with 1-3 things. Which pretty much sucks for my situtation. I'v tried changing it many times but have gotten nowhere. I also got another lead. When I uninstalled my old TV Tuner i deleted these two files BT848VBI.386 & BTVBI.386, which i hear that i need. Could this also be adding to my trouble...
Thx for trying to help, any more would be highly appreciated cuz this problem is blowing my brain since I got the card for mainly capturing.

      Thanx Again

You have an old BIOS: try http://www.gateway.com/support/produ...4M4PB0X1.shtml
        to download an up-to-date one.

If that doesn't work to fiddle the IRQs, try calling the Gateway support to find out how to do it.
