First of all, thanks for all your reactions.

This_Idiot, sorry if my previous reaction gave you the idea that I was annoyed by your remark that Teletext is European only. This was certainly not the case; I appreciate any suggestion. I guess because I'm not a native English speaker sometimes I use the wrong words.

Michka, Pertti, the teletext application that I installed from my Matrox-CD is a program called ttx.exe. This program is apparently developed by a Danish company called Cebra. I checked their website and they have a teletext-utility for TV-tuners based on a BT848 chip.
The Matrox teletext utility comes with a help file, that talks about these BT-drivers I mentioned before. Could it be that Cebra developed a special Matrox-version of their application and that they forgot to update the help-file?
As far as I know, the Marvel doesn't have a BT848 TV-tuner chip, does it?

Anyway, I uninstalled all Matrox related software (the correct way), reinstalled the new drivers and after that the teletext utility. It still doesn't work. I see a screen with page 100 (the default teletext page) but with no information. I guess the teletext utility can't find a TV channel to get its data from.

I'm going to try a few other things; in the teletext directory there are a couple of INI files that I'm going to play around with. As soon as I have any result I'll let you know of course.
Any suggestions are still welcome of course!

      Spielberg,

There is no BT848 chip on it, Cebra must have just forgotten to take it out of the helpfile.

The teletext application gets the channels from PC-VCR, so when you tune PC-VCR to a channel that has teletext, you should be able to start the teletext application by hitting the "ClosedCaptionning/Teletext" button on the PC-VCR, and the application opens the page100 of that channels pages.

As Chris already mentionned, the Teletext application should be the last one to be installed.

After installing the Teletext application, go through your PC-VCR settings once again, just in case the installation program has changed something.

      Pertti

        Spielberg,
I came to the same conclusion as you concerning the teletext app: it is a version specially made for Matrox by Cebra. I went on their site, hoping to find an upgrade. Nada. The help is for the original Brooktree version of the program and incorrectly states for us Matrox users that we need some files for the BT chips.
When I start the ttx app, it starts just like you mention: a black screen with P100 in the upper left corner. After a while, if PC-VCR is running, the window fills with the ttx info of page 100 of the channel selected in PC-VCR. That's the catch: ttx info appears in the teletext window, but PC-VCR has to be running, and you change channels in PC-VCR. There is no way to change channels in the ttx app itself.

I am watching the TV and it's worthless.
If I switch it on it is even worse.

Appologies for not getting back. I did as Uwe suggested and pressed the closed captioning button and it worked first time

            Michka,

Thanks for your last remarks; thanks to you I got Teletext working now!!

Somewhere you mentioned "... if PC-VCR is running ...". Oops, I realized that after I reinstalled drivers and teletext-app, I tested it by only activating the teletext-app ...
This is probably because I'm trying out several different capturing-programs lately and they all require that PC-VCR is closed first. I guess it has become a routine to close PC-VCR before doing something else ...

Anyway, after reading your message I started PC-VCR, pressed the CC-button and I was very happy.
Chris, I guess that your suggestion of uninstalling everything, reinstalling the drivers and afterwards installing the Teletext-app is the what actually solved the problem.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Yeah, I would like to know too of a replacement, because the teletext app from matrox (Cebra) is really not good at all: the idea of the window resizing, but only downwards, is a real pain in the ... And navigation through the pages does not work.

I'm very new to the Marvel club, but I got the TT working quite quickly, and find it quite good as well:

                  concerning the resizing:
change to any font size you desire and 'maximize' your window using the appropriate button in the top-right.

                  concerning the navigation:
no problem, I can just double-click on any line (with other page numbers) within the screen, which immediately brings me to the according page.

                  Mark.

                    MarkD:
In Belgium at least, some teletext pages have additional navigation tabs, which show outside the normal page. If you look at a page without these tabs, the window resizes (shrinks), but when you then change once again to a page with these tabs, the page does not resize up. Instead, scroll bars appear which further shrinks the view of the page.
Concerning navigation: I do agree, clicking on a page number brings you to that page. But how do you go back to the previous page you came from?
