  • MSP6, MPEG, and DVD

    I'm looking for some info about the MPEG that MSP6 generates.

    1- Easy one. The first thing I need to know is, is it MPEG-2?

    2-My goal is to create a mini-DVD. (Probably limited to PC-DVD players, but that's good enough for now). From what I've read on DVD authoring, you have separate video and audio MPEG files. Would a DVD authoring tool (e.g. DVD Toolbox) split MSP's MPEG, or can MSP do some of that on its own?

    I sure hope the MPEG encoder in MSP6 is better than the Ligos "GoMotion" included in VS4 with my Pyro!

    Despite the hype about how great Ligos is, unless there are some extra settings I've not yet found, or the VS4 version is crippleware, it ain't worth the wait and will only meet the most uncritical needs. It is better than the MPEG encoder that shipped wth MSP5, but that sure ain't saying much!

    Let's hope I've not yet stumbled onto where VS4 lets me tweak it, and that is is possible to get better output than I've got with the VS4 default VCD settings.

    I'll try to take a look tonight to see if VS4 can produce an MPEG2 from a DV capture.

    Got a backorder slip on my MSP6 update order :-(

      What is your computer spec

      I have to save at 352 x 288 on my 400 celeron, 128mb RAM.

      If I save at 720 x 576 the mpeg2's gets blocky

        My MPEG's have never looked better than they have with MSPro6's GoMotion. VideoCD's especially.

        In the ulead32.ini file look for this section:

        [VIODRIVER]

        Now add this entry to it;

        Advance=1

        This activates the Advanced MPEG/MPEG2 render options in MSP6. The Advanced options let you set the motion vectors and tons of other settings. Try it with VS4 and report back ;-))

          This, of course, has nothing to do with MSP6, but anyway...

          I have got excellent results in producing miniDVD capturing full res (704x576, PAL) and then using LIGOS LSX MPEG-2 encoder using a bitrate at 4000KB (a DVD has 7000KB). This allows me to store movies from my HI-8 to CD-R (miniDVD) with about 25 min worth of film. I use the DVD-toolbox for the authoring. Does anybody know of a DVD settop that allows miniDVD to play?

            I have tried Ligos LSX 3.0 and MSP 6. It is not possible to do DVD encodings with any of them. They only output progressive sequence. DVDs are encoded as interlaced sequence.
