  • When you wish upon a star.

When will Panasonic, Sony, JVC or whoever think there may be a market for a mini-DV camcorder without any optics, CCDs, viewfinder, autofocus, auto white balance, zoom controls, iris and shutter controls but just IEEE 1394 in/out (possibly a de-luxe version with analogue in/out as well). If we say that with the other expensive components, such a camcorder may cost $1500 for a good model, without them the price should drop to $200 or 300. Of course, they may decide not to call it a camcorder but something like a mini-DV tape deck. And wouldn't it be nice if it could be built into the computer?

I, for one, would be a purchaser: any of you guys, as well?

Well, maybe my head is in the ozone layer.

Not in the least Brian. I beleive you have something to really consider. Like sending the suggestion off to Sony!

Sony has a 5-1/4" DVpro unit that goes into the computer, but not one for Mini-DV yet (at least that I can find). They've got the walkman for Mini-DV, too, and a VCR for Mini-DV. These are all relatively low volume items, however, so they soak you for them.
