  • Green crap at top of some video.

    Hi when I play certain Video's though my Marvel g400 I get green flashes but just at the top. It's only on some video's and not just on bought one some of my home taped one's aswell. I have checked though previous messages and only found refrences to green lines all along the picture. If any one could help me out I would be very gratefull.

        Check out the following:
        The problem occurs if you install a third party program like apple quicktime, that modifies the [mci extensions] section of the win ini file. The native windows player makes a call to Mciqtz.drv If this setting has changed, the problem occurs.
        Resolution
        Method one:
        Reinstall/Install active movie

        Method two:
        To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
        1. On the windows start menu, click run.
        2. In the open box, type sysedit to display the system configuration editor.
        3. Click the system.ini window, scroll to the [mci] section, and then look for the following lines of information:
        [mci]
        AVIVideo=mciavi.drv
        MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv

        If any of the lines are missing, type the line as shown.
        4. Click the win.ini window; scroll to the [MCI EXTENSIONS] section, and then look for the following lines of information:

        [mci extensions]

        avi=AVIVideo
        qt=MPEGVideo
        mov=MPEGVideo
        dat=MPEGVideo
        mpg=MPEGVideo
        mpa=MPEGVideo
        mpv=MPEGVideo
        enc=MPEGVideo
        mlv=MPEGVideo
        mp2=MPEGVideo
        mpe=MPEGVideo
        mpeg=MPEGVideo
        mpm=MPEGVideo
        au=MPEGVideo
        snd=MPEGVideo
        aif=MPEGVideo
        aiff=MPEGVideo
        aifc=MPEGVideo

        If any of the lines are missing, type the line as shown. If any of the extension are duplicated, such as avi,mpg,or mov, comment out the duplicate line by placing a semicolon at the beginning of the entry, as in the example below.

        mpg=ExmplVideo
        becomes
        ;mpg=ExmplVideo

        5. click save on the file menu, and then close the system confiuration editor.
        6. Start your video player, and open a movie file. To play

        Hope that this will help you . Found that most green stripe problems are fixed with this fix.

          Hey thanks a lot a did what you said and also installed the older version of media player that came with my Matrox. Then the greeness went away!

          However now I still get crap at the top. And a occasional flash of a colour all over the picture. I tried tweaking with the PC-VCR tracking util and it does make it better but instead the top bends over to the left. But it's really strange because like I said it only happens on some video's.

          Can anyone help with this problem?

              I believe the problem with the Matrox card is that it doesn't properly recognise the sync pulses at the start of vertical and horizontal sync. This means that picture is sometimes horizontally and vertically shifted and when you record dark programes you can sometimes see green flashes at the top of the picture.

              Solution
              either hope a new version of Matrox drivers fix this
              OR
              buy a different capture card (I went out and got a DC30+)

                Right well I can't quite afford another card since I just spent all my money on my Matrox. So I guess I will have to wait and see if they fix it in a update. Thanks for telling me now at least I know I'm not doing something wrong.
