  • Premiere 4.2 with Mrvel G200

I am attempting to use Premiere 4.2 in conjunction with a Matrox Marvel G200 AGP card.

I cannot output a compiled movie to VHS or TV.

    Help Please.

Using Avid package that arrived with card I can capture, edit and output to VHS and TV.

The quick connect reports all OK.

Using 4.2 I can capture clips from my camcorder using FILE>CAPTURE>MOVIE CAPTURE and as soon as I stop capture a Clip Window opens and the clips just captured run in this window and full screen on TV.

If I attempt to drag the clip into the Construction Window I am requested to save first. Having done so it appears automatically in the Project Window from where I can drag to Construction Window.

When the required clips are arranged in Construction Window and work bar set I use Make Movie facility. The compiled movie appears automatically in a Clip Window. I can play the movie in this window but NOT on TV.

I have tried using Print to Video. The movie plays on VDU but NOT on TV.

How do I get my first movie onto VHS?

    Thanks john

    Hi there!

Hrm... it's been a long time since I used 4.2. If you can, you'd be a LOT better off with Premiere 5.1c OR Ulead Media Studio Pro 5 or 6. They're much more stable and compatible with Matrox cards, it seems.

Anyway, to your problem. When you hit Export-->Make Movie, does a window come up prompting for the options you want to use?

You need to make sure that you set a couple of things. First your format must be AVI, and the codec that you use MUST be Matrox MJPEG. Any other codec will not use the Marvel's output hardware, and will not appear on your TV screen.

Then you need to check some other things. Your movie dimensions must follow proper PAL or NTSC format, or the Marvel won't like it. I won't go into listing them here, but there are several valid NTSC and PAL options in dimensions, and you must follow them to output to TV. Also, you must use proper NTSC or PAL frame rates, I believe, or the Marvel balks.

Hrm... past that, I honestly don't know. When you say that the make movie causes another window to pop up automatically, do you really mean instantly? Usually there is rendering time.

Perhaps I'm forgetting about an option on 4.2 that makes a movie without actually rendering, which would only make it appear on the screen? You need to make sure that the command you're using lets you supply a file name, and actually writes the output file to the disc, as what you're trying to do is save the final file to disc, as I understand it.

Hopefully this helps. Just remember there are certain rules that your movie files must follow for the Marvel card to output them to the TV. They have to use the proper codec, and have to be the proper dimensions and framerate to output to your TV. Check all these options, and then try it again, and hopefully all will be well.

    Matt
