  • RR-G is driving me mad...

    I need some help...big time.

I downloaded powerdesk 5.41 and videotools 1.52 and installed them both, thinking this might resolve my RR-G tuner problems. Well it worked very well, all the systems were normal, I was extatic. I even rebooted, and surprise, it still worked!

Today I'm back to square one. I've got static and no sound. Video switches to secam when set to automatic, which makes no sense in canada. When I switch to air instead of cable, I get a better picture, but only 13 channels. Still no sound. What happens exactly when you switch to cable input?

This card is more of a project than I bargained for...

Sorry dude, I've got an RR-G and am happily using 5.41 and 1.52 with no problems.

Perhaps if you posted your system specs and an IRQ listing...?

Hi, Boul. I am fairly new on this side of the forums, and I have seen your battle history with new certified power supplys and all.

However, I am in a bit similar situation as you, although with my system, you could blame the power supply. After changing the power supply everything worked fine (previously my TV tuner would not tune, and also capture board was not recognised, always).

After ripping away everything else, and replacing the power supply, it started to work, miraculously.

When I then put back my last 128 MB Dimm, the TV tuner picture disappeared again... but... after a minute of warming up it came back...

So I guess I am at the edge of what my power supply can give.

Of course, you should be fairly confident on you power supply... but have tried waiting for a while after boot (in fact I was waiting in PC-VCR, finally the picture showed up).

        Meek,

This is interesting, since my tuner seems to labor, and just misses its target. But I have waited for a while quite often, with no success.

          A few remarks:

at the time I purchased my Marvel G400, I was not aware that there were some requirements on the power supply. It however all works fine with my 250W power supply (which also powers 2HD's, 1CD-RW, 1-CD and different fans)

I also tried to tweak here and there, and I found that the position of the mobo is very critical. I had to reposition it to be able to insert the G400 correctly (deep enough) in the AGP slot. Before I had a normal screen, but the software wouldn't install, cause it didn't find 'the right hardware' (or whatever)

I also had poor TV reception using cable connection (only part of the channels were found), but everything was solved by manually configuring the channel frequencies. I refer to http://www.desktopvideoworld.com/DTVW_downloads.htm

          Perhaps this helps

I hope this isn't bad news, but I had a very similar set up to you, specifically the matrox/SBlive combo and it gave me no end of problems...static...no sound...also it occurred when I played DVDs too...I WASTED about 1 month trying to diagnose it with help from the said companies tech reps and nada (btw, matrox reps told me that SBLive cards were giving them a big headache too).

So, ultimately I sold the SBlive card and replaced it with the Aureal card (nice card that allows 4 speakers). Good luck and tell me if you find a fix...

I don't know what to suggest - your IRQ listing is almost identical to mine, and as I mentioned before I'm using the a G400/RR-G/SBLive value setup with no problems.

The problems you're experiencing don't sound like software problems, though. As a last resort kind of solution I'd recommend pulling your cards and just trying the G400 & RR-G by themselves with 5.25 & 1.51 (or even 1.21) drivers.

Was your system working before and you upgraded to 5.41/1.52?

What is Matrox tech support telling you?

I too got the G400Max RR-G and Soundblaster Live Platinum and I have no problems... but when I installed the SB-Live I only installed the drivers and not all that bunk software that came with it!

MarkD, you might have a point, as yesterday I got my RR-G to work correctly (pinched myself several times) and this was after giggling the cards once they were screwed in. I heard a click (at the time I thought it sounded like a pin giving way) and upon reboot, I had sound and picture. I rebooted, still good. Unplugged, still good. Put the case cover back on, still good.

Of course, I get back from work today, with the exact same setup, and its not working.

P.S. On my way to total bliss yesterday, I went through a plethora of false detections (From flatpanel add-on? with no dual head, to video input (what the hell would show up as video input?) to tv-tuner(still no dual head) Once I got the correct detection, it started working. But today I've got all my hardware detected, and its not working....

Anyone want to buy a RR-G with slightly worn connectors?
