  • Video capture software - which can capture each scene as a different file?

    Rod,

Be warned, it's a "feature" that some love and some hate. It doesn't work during the capture, the input "clip" remains intact and is therefore subject to the 2Gb limit. What it does is "inspect" the clip AFTER capture, and detect changes of scene (I don't know what algorithm they use). This is supposed to ease the effort of clipping scenes. It takes an absolute age to run.

Personally, I prefer to capture only the scenes that I want to use and trim them myself.

There are two ways (at least) for Studio DV to make these 'clips'.
One is based on changes/jumps in time-code info, and the other is based on 'major' changes between two frames.

Video capture software - which can capture each scene as a different file?

I have heard that software bundled with the Pinnacle Systems capture cards can automatically detect scene changes, thus splitting the capture into different files.

Is there any other software/shareware that can achieve this?

        Thanks guys ...

Ok - what about software that can "split" AVI files. For example, if I capture a 30 minute video and manually split the file into smaller files for editing? I know this can be done when editing (but this does not normally change the original file).
