G400 analog input & DV card

Continuing my research on the web, and still undecided as to what to buy....I want to do the following:
- input/edit(& title)/output DV
- input output analog directly

I've given up looking for something dirt cheap that does all that....I was even starting to consider the Pinnacle DV500
until I glanced at the rec.video.desktop
newsgroup and saw all the problems people wer having...end of story.

Now I'm wondering if it might not be simpler to get a pure-DV card and for analog to somehow upgrade my G400. It this a good solution? I'm assuming that to enable analog input on the G400 I'd need the Rainbow Runner, correct?

Yes - you can have both analogue and digital capture cards in the same system. I do it with RAPTOR and MARVEL G200.

Your other option would be RT2000 - which does both analogue and digital and has a host of other nice features. It will, of course, depend on your budget.

If you intend to do mostly digital (DV) work and only want analogue for the odd capture for low resolution work (e.g. for WWW work) then the RAPTOR will capture analogue input. It uses s/w CODECs so the performance will depend upon your processor speed.

My suggestion would be to go with the add-on to the G400 then get a RAPTOR. Beware cheaper DV cards - there are a lot of horror stories about getting some of them to work.

I'm currently running some tests on an ADS Pyro alongside a G200 Marvel using VideoStudio4. MS6 is so new that I don't yet have a media copy to try.

But, I can confirm that the ADS and G200Marv live quite happily together and I've been able to capture both analogue and digital video without major problems.

I'm using a SIIG 1394 card and MSP6 (total cost: $80 USD for the card, and $199 for the MSP6 upgrade). It's working just GREAT! I also have a SONY DVMC-DA2 which completely solves the analog in/out problem ($315 at a local camera shop).

I'd recommend the Pyro, though, over the SIIG, only because ADS has better support on their website and appear to be more actively pursuing making the DV NLE crowd happy.

I spent the last couple of years using a Rainbow Runner, and was very happy with it. Now that I've switched over to DV, however, I can't say enough about the major boost in the QUALITY of the video I get, when compared to the old analog setup I had before.
