The 'TERRIBLE BLUE SCREEN SAGA' and other probs !!!!!

I have installed a Marvel G400 TV capture card. Capturing footage from PC-VCR remote I open the file in MSPRO 5.0 ve, video editor ( which was actually pre-installed on my system when I bought it ) to construct my project. I save my video project to required location and then close video editor.
It is then that my computer crashes showing the blue screen with message " A fatal exception OE has occured at 0187:BFF9DBA7 the current application will be terminated". This happens every time I close down 'video editor' which then means the annoying wait of having to reboot my computer. Incidently occasionally after rebooting I receive another blue screen shut down entitled " A fatal exception OE has occured at 0028:C02B522D in VXD IOS (04)+00001101. The current application will be terminated, Neither of these problems occured prior to installing the marvel G400...
Does anyone have a clue as to whats happening..!!!!!!
On restarting my system I open PC-VCR remote and find my previously saved video file. On playing back, picture appears only on the PC-VCR remote preview screen but not on the separate TV monitor connected via the hooked-up S-VHS VCR, therefore not allowing me to record to tape the footage I've edited.
Anyone ,again, have any ideas.......??????.....Could there be a conflict between the MSPRO VERSION I have (5.0 ve) and PC-VCR remote/marvel capture card which is causing the fatal exeption blue screen crash and the play back problems in PC-VCR remote, or is it some kind of memory problem of some sort.....!!!!!!...????

SYSTEM SPEC ; 400Mhz intel Pentium 2, 440 BX chipset, 128Mb RAM, 10Gb HDD as master and 27Gb as slave for video, Matrox Marvel G400 TV card, Windows 98.....

Any replies as usual much appriciated

My first remark may be a misunderstanding of terminology. You state your video drive is a slave. This should not be: it must be master on your second IDE channel to give the performance you need.

However, I'll give you a stab in the dark here on your main problem. I understand that MSPro ought to be installed AFTER all the Matrox stuff in order to recognise it. Could this be it?

Do you keep the PC-VCR open during the time that you are editing the video in MSPRO? I should think that the two programs would 'fight' for the right to use the playback circuitry of the Marvel. This might certainly cause an error.

Usually you can't have two programs open at once that both want to use the Marvel.

If that's not a problem, then definately, the way to go is to reinstall the Ulead program files.

Brian Ellis why does the drive you are using to capture has to be the second master?

In that case it would have to cope with either a DVD or a CD-RW unit.

My "Drop"rate doubled when i went from a g200 to a g400 coupled to my RRG.
But i think that 25 droped frames an hour is aceptable.

I don't know WHY What I do know is that if you have two identical and empty drives on the same IDE line, the slave benchmarks much slower. Swap the around by moving the little jumpers and the slave is still much slower. Empirical experience, not knowledge in the real sense of the word. I don't know about CD-Rs (or DVDs) as my CD-R is SCSI, anyway.

Through reading various magazines and checking out web sites such as this one the general consenses is that the second drive should be connected as slave to the first drive (master) on the primary IDE channel, which mine is. This is purely following suit as I haven't a clue about the why's and where-fores.

No, I only have one program open at any one time.

Further to my last post above and after checking out a post I found from this site from Pertti, dated 06/03/00 on optimising Marvel G400 if using with MSPRO, I did as shown and copied the MSPRO Utils on the Matrox installation CD to the MSPRO windows directory on my 'C' drive. Hey presto I could now see a picture on my TV monitor.UNFORTUNATELY the picture appears as only black and white and jumps violently up and down, as though theres a vertical sync problem,this is also whats recorded if I try to record to VHS tape. TOTALLY UNWATCHABLE.

If its any help, today I have been using Avid CINEMA program and came across the file I had created and saved in MSPRO video editor, (and which will not play back correctly) it appeared I could 'IMPORT' it into AVID CINEMA , although it had to be re-rendered to the correct file format.On completion I was able to play it back via the Avid cinema program through onto the TV monitor screen and so able to record it.
This leads me to think that the problem must lie with MSPRO and some sort of lack of drivers/files or something, which is not allowing me to play back a "WATCHABLE,RECORDABLE PICTURE"from a project saved straight from MSPRO video editor.Given this information has anyone experienced this problem before and solved it !!!!!!!!!!!
