  • RR-G needs a REALLY cold boot to work....

I think I finally figured out how to get my rr-g to work on my abit system. I need to unplug and replug the power supply, and reboot. This gives me 100% success so far. If I leave the power supply plugged, it doesn't work when I power up.

Question is : can I damage my system by unplugging and replugging the power supply every time I start the computer?

It seems the the rr-g appreciates the little spark you see when plugging in the PS. Now I don't know if my PS will appreciate it as much...

    Hi there,

Perhaps you could just do the same thing with a power strip...? I know a lot of people who keep their computer on a power strip, and upon turning off the computer, turn off the power strip. Have you tried something like this...?

Or are you saying that you are unplugging the power supply from the motherboard...? That's an entirely different thing, and I should certainly hope that you are not leaving the computer plugged in while connecting or disconnecting things from the Mobo... bad idea. But I have a feeling I'm just reading that possibility in.

Hopefully it's just you mean you're unplugging the cord from the back of the computer. It's not the first time I've heard of a 'cold boot' solution for something on a computer that went beyond even the turning off of the computer.

I'd give the power strip idea a shot. It might accomplish the same thing without the 'spark' that you mentioned (which I have seen on occasion while doing the same thing... and which always scares me, that the computer is getting fried! )

    Hope this helps,
    Matt

      Dayspring,

Tried turning off the power bar today, no luck. More precisely, I have to leave the monitor on and unplug and replug the ps (after shutting down of course), to get the best spark possible, then the tuner works. No spark, no tuner.

No, I'm not unplugging the mobo (that would be a real pain.... Still a bit worried though...Oh well, maybe when the w2K drivers show up, the system will be so stable I won't have to reboot...

And then pigs will start flying...

          Hi,

Most TV Tuner problems seem to be related to the power supply. I was able to get mine working in a similar way to what you are doing.

I eventually changed my power supply and it works fine without having to do that trick now.

Alas, I have already changed my PS for a Matrox approved one. So its unplugging routine for me...
