  • Weird problems with input signal

    Hi all,

Matrox Marvel G200. No problems with video input ever before, no matter if it's via composite or svideo. However, I stumbled upon a big obstacle when I connected my ancient Atari STe computer to the videocard yesterday (plan was to use my PC as the "tv" for the Atari).

Connecting composite video to the Marvel gave me a fuzzy picture with colours being all wrong, and moving up'n'down etc. A really terrible picture! I decided to route the composite signal to my TV (Sony 32" widescreen thing with features like output any signal type from any input type) and then take the SVideo out and feed my Marvel with. Same crappy picture.

Composite looks ok on the TV, so it's not the Atari's fault here - even though I guess it's signal might be a bit off and it's the Marvel that's being pedantic ..

... but, I'm desperately in the need of a way to solve this anyhow. So, any ideas?

I have a .bmp of how the picture looks available for download at http://apollo.nu/~troed/desktop.bmp

(The real Atari ST desktop should look a lot like the site www.atarist.com does - nice stable green background ... )

... and I guess there's no way to feed RGB into the Marvel? (I have RF, Composite and RGB out from my Atari. Since it's a European Marvel there's no RF input, so my only option is Composite as far as I can see .. )

Please tell me this is a known problem that you can solve for me with a registry patch or something?

I can get an almost acceptable B&W picture if I adjust the sliders on the PC-VCR video properties tab as follows:

    Bright: 0%
    Contrast: 46%
    Hue: 0%
    Saturation: 0%

    !!!

So, judging from what I'm doing with the brightness tab, is this about a too high signal level???

("almost acceptable" since I still get a bad shadow on shard edges)

Is there really not a single person here who has an idea as to what might cause this problem?

Further info: RF out from the Atari to my video, composite from the video to the Marvel. Much better B&W picture, but if I keep the sliders where they should be the colours are still seriously messed up.

Anyone??? The Marvel is the only component that doesn't seem to like the output from the Atari ...
